About the role
Accounting Manager - Multi-Family Property Management
OVERVIEW
The Accounting Manager leads a team of property accountants and is responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timely preparation of financial reporting for assigned multifamily properties, including affordable housing communities. This is a hands-on role that combines staff supervision, detailed review of team-prepared financial statements and supporting schedules, and preparation of an assigned property portfolio.
The manager owns the first-level review process for assigned financial packages, ensures corrections are resolved, and presents completed reporting to the designated accounting leader for final approval. The position also supports audits, develops staff, coordinates with Operations, and helps maintain consistent accounting procedures and internal controls.
This is not a remote role. Required workplace is in our company's headquarters office in Gaithersburg, MD. This role is full-time and will require a Monday-through-Friday schedule, with the occasional evenings or weekends required as business needs demand.

Audit support and collaboration
- Coordinate assigned PBC requests, prepare and review audit schedules, track deadlines, and ensure support agrees to the applicable financial records.
- Assist with audit questions, approved audit adjustment recording, opening-balance tie-outs, and year-end readiness.
- Work with Operations, AP, treasury support, and external accounting providers to resolve missing postings, incomplete support, and reporting exceptions.
- Respond professionally to routine client and auditor inquiries within assigned authority, escalating significant accounting judgments and sensitive matters to leadership.
