Job Description:

The AI Experimentation Engineer performs the hands-on experimental and evaluation work of Hitachi Energy's Technology Validation team. The role turns selected AI opportunities into focused feasibility experiments, comparative evaluations, demonstrators and technical spikes, reducing important unknowns before architecture, platform, acceleration or delivery commitments are made.

How you will make an impact

  • Design and run time-boxed feasibility experiments, spikes and demonstrators against clear learning questions and expected evidence.
  • Compare AI models, LLMs, services, frameworks, integrations and vendor options fairly, with a baseline or alternative where it improves the conclusion.
  • Build reference implementations, prototypes, test harnesses and integrations that are proportionate to the question being tested.
  • Keep concise findings and reusable technical assets where they improve a decision or future reuse.
  • Work with the AI Research Engineer and AI Opportunity Lead, and give demonstrations and evidence to DAAI Architecture, Platform Operations, Acceleration and Delivery without taking on delivery or product ownership.
  • Pick up a focused question, for example whether a model can run locally at acceptable quality and speed.
  • Write a prototype or test harness in Python and notebooks. Compare models, services or vendor products on the same realistic tasks. Connect AI services together (APIs, agents, data tools) and see whether the integration holds up.

Your Background

  • 3+ years in AI/ML experimentation, prototyping, software engineering, data science or applied AI.
  • Strong Python and notebooks, with hands-on AI experimentation and fast prototyping.
  • Has evaluated LLMs, ML models, AI services or integrations.
  • A degree in computer science, data science or engineering.
  • Ability to run a time-boxed, question-driven experiment and turn the findings into a decision.
