Build the future with us
Are you passionate about investing, capital markets, and fundamental research? As Associate Director, Canadian Equities, you will play a key role within a growing Canadian equity platform where rigorous, proprietary research directly informs investment decisions. You will lead coverage of assigned sectors and companies, develop differentiated investment views, and present actionable recommendations directly to Portfolio Managers.
This role offers the opportunity to research both large-cap and small-cap companies, providing exposure to a broad investment universe and a wide range of potential alpha-generating ideas. You will work in a collaborative, active-management environment with visibility into idea generation, portfolio debates, due diligence, and ongoing investment monitoring, while deepening your sector expertise and portfolio-construction knowledge.
What you’ll accomplish with us
As Associate Director, Canadian Equities, you’ll be at the core of our investment process. Here are the main responsibilities:
- Lead coverage of assigned sectors and companies, with primary responsibility for developing and communicating stock recommendations across Canadian equity mandates.
- Conduct deep fundamental company and sector research, including financial modelling, valuation, scenario analysis, industry structure, competitive positioning, management quality, and key investment risks.
- Generate investment ideas and develop clear, differentiated theses supported by evidence, catalysts, downside analysis, and an explicit risk-reward framework.
- Present recommendations and research updates to Portfolio Managers and contribute constructively to investment debates and portfolio discussions.
- Participate in management meetings, industry conferences, expert discussions, site visits, and other primary-research activities, as appropriate.
- Monitor existing and prospective investments, including company developments, earnings results, estimate revisions, valuation changes, and thesis milestones.
- Prepare concise, high-quality investment briefs and presentation materials for internal discussions and investment committee meetings.
What could accelerate your success in this role
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has five or more years of relevant experience analyzing public companies, building financial models, applying valuation methodologies, and making stock recommendations.
- Has deep expertise in at least one of the following sectors: Information Technology, Materials, Energy, Financials, or Real Estate.
- Holds an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, accounting, business, or a related discipline; progress toward or completion of the CFA designation is an asset.
- Demonstrates a passion for investing and capital markets, supported by a repeatable research process, sound investment judgment, and a strong understanding of equity markets.
- Has advanced financial-modelling and Excel skills, including scenario and sensitivity analysis, and can synthesize complex information to communicate a clear investment view in both written and verbal formats.
- Is proficient with financial data and research platforms; experience with Bloomberg, Inovestor, Morningstar, eVestment, or similar tools is an asset.
- Brings intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, strong business judgment, and the confidence to challenge consensus views and defend well-supported recommendations while remaining willing to revise a thesis when facts change.
- Demonstrates a proactive, accountable, organized, collaborative, and integrity-driven approach.; experience covering Information Technology, Materials, Energy, Financials, or Real Estate is an asset.
- Advanced level of English proficiency required, as the role involves participating in management meetings, industry conferences, and expert discussions as part of its research activities.
- Advanced proficiency in French is also required.
