About the role
Job Description:
TransMedics is the global leader in portable normothermic perfusion for solid organ transplantation and the company that built the National OCS Program (NOP) — the first end-to-end national donor organ procurement and delivery network. We are now redefining transplantation again with cloud-based remote monitoring and control of the OCS Gen-3.0 platform, paired with central digital command centers that coordinate donor and recipient logistics for transplant centers across the U.S. and internationally.
The Associate Director, Strategic Programs leads high-priority, cross-functional initiatives across TransMedics — spanning clinical operations, commercial, medical affairs, R&D, regulatory, quality, digital, and supply chain. The role turns strategy into funded, well-governed programs with clear owners and milestones, keeps leadership informed on progress, risks, and decisions, and serves as a trusted delegate on the company's most important initiatives.
What you will do
Strategy and portfolio management
- Support senior leadership in developing multi-year strategy and operating plans; own the planning cadence and the roadmap that tracks progress.
- Translate priorities into an annual program portfolio with clear charters, owners, milestones, budgets, and success measures, giving leadership full visibility for trade-offs.
Program leadership
- Lead the company's most consequential cross-functional programs end-to-end: scoping, business case, planning, resourcing, risk management, execution, and benefits realization.
- Own program governance — steering committees, status reporting, decision logs, and escalation paths — so issues reach the right leaders early and with options.
- Lead program teams drawn from across functions, setting clear roles and accountability without direct reporting authority; establish program management standards and tools for the organization.
Growth, launch, and transformation initiatives
- Program-manage expansion initiatives, including new regional hubs, transplant center and OPO partnerships, and international market entry.
- Lead continuous-improvement and operating model programs that address gaps identified in KPI trends, case reviews, and root-cause analyses.
- Serve as business-side program manager for enterprise technology and digital initiatives with TMDX Digital, IT, and Data — from requirements through user acceptance, change management, and adoption.
Executive communication
- Prepare executive, and operating review materials; synthesize program status, risks, and decisions needed into clear recommendations.
What you bring
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a clinical, scientific, engineering, or business field; master's degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, or clinical master's) strongly preferred.
- 6+ years in program management, strategy, operations, or management consulting, including 3+ years leading complex cross-functional programs in medical device, biotech, healthcare services, or a comparable regulated environment.
- Demonstrated success delivering multi-workstream programs on time and on budget with formal governance, risk management, and executive reporting.
- Working familiarity with clinical operations and FDA medical device regulations, or the ability to become credible with clinicians and quality teams quickly.
- Strong financial and analytical skills: business cases, budgets, resource models, and KPI-driven decision-making.
- Executive-level communication; able to influence without authority across clinical, technical, commercial, and executive audiences.
- Willingness to travel ~15% to regional hubs, transplant centers, OPOs, partners, and industry meetings.
Preferred
- PMP, PgMP, Lean, or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience in transplant, organ procurement, perfusion, or OPO operations, with working knowledge of OPTN/UNOS policy.
- Experience supporting a new device or indication launch, market expansion, or enterprise technology implementation.
- Prior chief-of-staff, strategy, or business operations role supporting a senior operating executive.
