About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Biology Specialist – Freelance AI Trainer Project based remotely in United States.
Help shape the future of AI by applying your biology expertise to the training and evaluation of advanced language models. In this freelance project, you will challenge AI systems with complex scientific questions and realistic laboratory scenarios across a broad range of biological disciplines. Your assessments will help determine whether models provide scientifically accurate, logically sound, and reliable explanations. You will identify reasoning gaps, document reproducible errors, and recommend improvements to prompts and evaluation methods. Your contributions will support the development of AI systems that can better assist with scientific learning, research, and laboratory workflows. This remote opportunity is well suited to experienced biology professionals who enjoy analytical problem-solving and communicating complex scientific concepts clearly.
Accountabilities:
-
Test AI models using theoretical biology questions and realistic laboratory or research scenarios.
-
Evaluate responses across relevant disciplines, including cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, ecology, evolutionary biology, immunology, neurobiology, developmental biology, and biochemistry.
-
Assess scientific reasoning related to signal transduction, gene expression, protein folding, microscopy techniques, cloning methods, CRISPR and genome editing, laboratory protocols, and biosafety procedures.
-
Review explanations concerning biological systems and their roles in health and disease.
-
Verify factual accuracy, scientific validity, and logical consistency in AI-generated answers.
-
Identify and document model failure modes, including incorrect scientific claims, flawed assumptions, and gaps in reasoning.
-
Capture reproducible error traces and explain why specific responses are inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading.
-
Recommend improvements to prompts, evaluation criteria, and testing methodologies to strengthen scientific reasoning.
-
Communicate your reasoning clearly by outlining relevant evidence, assumptions, and the steps supporting your conclusions.
-
A PhD in biology or a closely related life-science field is preferred.
-
Strong knowledge of one or more biological specialties, such as cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, ecology, immunology, neurobiology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, or biochemistry.
-
Experience in scientific research, wet-lab experimentation, field research, laboratory diagnostics, or related practical projects is an advantage.
-
Peer-reviewed publications or other evidence of scientific expertise are beneficial.
-
Familiarity with relevant techniques and concepts, such as gene expression, protein folding, microscopy, cloning, CRISPR, genome editing, laboratory protocols, and biosafety procedures.
-
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify scientific inaccuracies and evaluate complex reasoning.
-
Excellent written communication skills and the ability to explain scientific concepts step by step.
-
A meticulous, evidence-driven approach to evaluating responses and documenting errors.
-
A secure computer and reliable high-speed internet connection for remote work.
-
Hourly compensation: $8–$65 per hour, depending on experience, expertise, and geographic location. Final compensation may vary from the advertised range.
-
Remote work: Work remotely.
-
Freelance flexibility: Contribute as an independent contractor in a contract-based role.
-
Scientific impact: Help improve the accuracy and reliability of AI systems working with biological and life-science knowledge.
-
Expertise-driven work: Apply your scientific background to challenging theoretical questions and realistic research scenarios.
-
Contribution to innovation: Support the development of AI tools with potential applications in scientific education, research, and laboratory workflows.
-
Independent work setup: Use your own secure computer and high-speed internet connection.
-
Contractor benefits: Company-sponsored health insurance, paid time off, and other employee benefits are not provided.
As a Biology Specialist, you will evaluate AI-generated responses to scientific questions, investigate technical inaccuracies, and provide structured feedback to improve model performance and scientific reasoning.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate has advanced knowledge of biology or a closely related life-science discipline, combined with strong analytical skills and the ability to explain complex scientific concepts in a structured, evidence-based manner. Research experience and practical laboratory expertise are valuable assets.
