Business Development Manager - Gas Piping Systems
Role Summary
Jones Stephens is seeking a Business Development Manager to lead strategy and execution for gas piping systems. This role will build demand with contractors and expand adoption across the wholesale distribution channel. A primary near-term priority is growing share by converting incumbent business through alignment with wholesale branch leadership, sales associates, inventory, pricing, training and contractor pull-through. The successful candidate will be a high-energy, solutions-oriented sales leader who can translate market strategy into measurable revenue, margin and share growth.
Location: This role is approved to be Remote anywhere in the US. Our ideal candidate would be located in the Mid-South i.e. Tennessee, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a national growth plan for gas piping systems across targeted wholesale distribution channels.
- Lead the wholesale branch adoption strategy for gas piping systems including opportunity sizing, target prioritization, local action plans and conversion tracking.
- Create contractor demand and pull-through by targeting plumbing, HVAC, gas distribution, multifamily and generator-installation customers; secure initial projects and drive repeat adoption.
- Concentrate sales activity in select markets, using statewide and municipal approvals, branch inventory and stocking partners to build dense, repeatable revenue.
- Partner with wholesale branch, district and regional leaders, along with Brand leadership, to align product strategy, stocking, pricing, sales activity and accountability.
- Build and manage a qualified pipeline of contractors, projects, branch conversions and wholesale opportunities in CRM; provide accurate forecasts and concise progress reporting.
- Deliver product, application and sales-strategy training to contractors and other market influencers.
- Develop relationships with code officials, trade associations, builders, developers, engineers and other specification influencers to expand product acceptance and adoption.
- Own system-based quoting and coordinate pricing, programs and proposals that protect margin, reduce substitution risk and accelerate closure.
- Monitor market trends, competitive activity and customer feedback—particularly related to competitors—to refine positioning and identify product, inventory and marketing needs.
- Serve as the field liaison across Brand Leadership, Category Management, Product Development, Marketing, Legal/Regulatory, Supply Chain and Sales to remove barriers and execute the go-to-market plan.
Measures of Success
- Revenue, gross margin and market-share growth for gas piping systems.
- Competitive conversions completed across targeted wholesale locations and contractors.
- Active contractors, repeat projects and adoption in focus markets.
- Stocking locations and qualified wholesale partners established in priority geographies.
- Pipeline quality, forecast accuracy, training completion and execution against market plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of business development, field sales, product management or channel-growth experience; gas piping, plumbing, HVAC or building-products experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success converting incumbent products, launching new categories and growing revenue through multi-location distribution networks.
- Working knowledge of two-step wholesale distribution, contractor pull-through and independent manufacturer representative models.
- Ability to communicate technical product value and deliver credible presentations to contractors, branch teams, executives, code officials and trade groups.
- Strong commercial judgment in pipeline management, forecasting, pricing, negotiation and profitability.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and field leaders without direct authority while maintaining clear ownership and follow-through.
- Self-directed, data-driven and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial growth environment with frequent travel.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively based on market and customer needs.
