Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare (NBH) operates as a critical component of Ohio’s state-operated psychiatric hospital system within the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH). As part of this coordinated statewide network of regional psychiatric hospitals, NBH works in close partnership with sister facilities to ensure consistent standards of care, operational alignment, and system-wide responsiveness to the behavioral health needs of Ohio’s communities.
Through this integrated state hospital network, NBH contributes to shared clinical protocols, quality initiatives, workforce strategies, forensic coordination, and emergency response planning that strengthen Ohio’s public behavioral health infrastructure.
NBH delivers evidence-based treatment through a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other behavioral health professionals who work collaboratively to promote recovery, stability, and successful reintegration into the community. In addition to individualized treatment planning, NBH emphasizes trauma-informed care, person-centered recovery, and strong partnerships with local mental health boards, community providers, and support networks.
As a safety-net provider, NBH also serves court-referred individuals through forensic services, ensuring access to high‑quality care while supporting community safety. The hospital is committed to fostering hope, dignity, and empowerment for every person it serves.
As one of Ohio’s major state-operated psychiatric hospitals, NBH serves as a regional hub for inpatient psychiatric services while supporting statewide forensic capacity and inter-facility collaboration. The Chief Executive Officer partners with DBH Central Office and fellow hospital CEOs to ensure alignment in policy implementation, regulatory compliance, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives designed to advance the statewide behavioral health continuum.
What you’ll do:
Do you have the vision and leadership to shape the future of mental health care in Ohio? We’re seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare — a mission‑driven role centered on the full operational, clinical, and administrative leadership of a state psychiatric hospital. The CEO is responsible for ensuring safe, high‑quality inpatient care; maintaining a strong, resilient workforce; overseeing hospital operations and regulatory compliance; and fostering a culture where staff and patients can thrive. This role blends strategic oversight with hands‑on executive management to ensure the hospital delivers exceptional, recovery‑oriented care for individuals living with serious mental illness.
As CEO, you will:
Lead Hospital Operations – Oversee the administration of a state-operated psychiatric hospital serving clients with complex mental health needs.
Shape the Future of Mental Health Care – Develop, implement, and evaluate a unified mental health delivery system, ensuring facility-wide programs align with DBH policy and community needs.
Build & Support Teams – Supervise top-level leaders and ensure accountability across all departments.
Drive Quality & Compliance – Maintain accreditation standards (The Joint Commission, Medicaid, Medicare), ensuring services meet or exceed regulatory and professional benchmarks.
Strengthen Community Partnerships – Collaborate with community mental health boards, Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services Boards, and local agencies to deliver integrated services in both hospital and community settings.
Oversee Budget & Growth – Develop and manage multimillion-dollar budgets, approve facility projects (renovations, expansions, capital planning), and ensure fiscal responsibility.
Represent & Advocate – Serve as the face of the facility, building trust with staff, unions, community partners, law enforcement, families, and the public.
Lead Through Challenge – Provide steady leadership during crises (emergency codes, outages, public health events), ensuring continuity of care and staff safety.
Advance System Integration – Collaborate with DBH Central Office and peer hospital CEOs to strengthen Ohio’s coordinated state hospital network, drive system-wide quality improvement initiatives, support workforce sustainability strategies, and ensure consistent standards of care across facilities.
