Job Summary
What are we looking for?
Cleveland Clinic London is looking to recruit a Clinical Fellow to join our team and contribute to the safe, effective daily care of inpatients. Working as part of the Clinical Fellow workforce, you will collaborate closely with specialist consultants, nursing professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure each patient’s treatment and care needs are met.
This is a full-time role participating in a rolling rota that supports a 24/7 surgical service. The successful candidate will take an active role in admissions, inpatient consultations and multidisciplinary ward rounds, while helping to identify patients who may benefit from early mobilisation or additional intervention to reduce avoidable decline and length of stay.
What makes us different?
Cleveland Clinic London offers a high-acuity clinical environment with advanced equipment and the opportunity to develop expertise across multiple specialties in collaboration with experienced clinicians. Our mission, 'Caring for life, researching for health, and educating those who serve', reflects our commitment to high-quality patient care, education, research and professional development.
What will your duties include?
- Provide day-to-day clinical care for surgical inpatients, working collaboratively with specialist consultants, nursing professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Lead and support new admissions and inpatient consultations, including participation in morning and evening multidisciplinary ward rounds.
- Contribute to the perioperative assessment, investigation and management of surgical patients, escalating concerns appropriately and working within your level of competence.
- Proactively identify patients who may benefit from early mobilisation, are at risk of deterioration or decline, or may experience a prolonged length of stay.
- Participate fully in the rolling rota supporting the surgical unit’s 24/7 service, ensuring clear communication, safe handover and continuity of care.
What we need from you?
- MBBS or equivalent, full registration with the General Medical Council and a current license to practice; you must also have current permission to work in the UK.
- At least two years of hospital experience following completion of foundation training, including experience in the perioperative management of post-surgical patients.
- Sound diagnostic skills and clinical judgement, with the ability to organise and prioritise clinical needs, recognise your limitations and escalate appropriately.
- Competence in routine clinical procedures, including venepuncture, blood cultures, arterial sampling, nasogastric tube insertion and urethral catheterisation.
- Effective communication, teamwork and leadership skills, with a supportive, caring and empathetic approach to patients and colleagues. MRCP, MRCS/FRCS or an equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
Professional development and clinical governance
- Participate in in-house learning, educational activities and the education and supervision of medical, nursing and other caregivers where appropriate.
- Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement, best-practice guidance and governance activities, including mortality review, safety event reporting and peer review.
- Maintain all required mandatory training, including training for the Epic electronic medical record system.
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, respect for confidentiality and awareness of ethical considerations, while reporting and learning from errors in accordance with policy.
- Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required. Comply fully with Cleveland Clinic London safeguarding training, policies and protocols, and report any safeguarding concern promptly.
What can we offer you?
As a private hospital with no shareholders, we reinvest profits back into our organisation. This means we can offer tailored support and development for caregivers, alongside benefits such as:
- 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
- Auto-enrolment pension: 5% caregiver contribution and 10% Cleveland Clinic contribution through Salary Exchange
- Life Assurance, Private Medical and Dental Insurance, and Eye Care contributions
- Discounted gym facilities and a 24/7 Holistic Employee Assistance Programme
- Workplace Nursery Scheme, Season Ticket Loan and Cycle to Work Scheme
