About the role
Summary
We are looking for an experienced Cloud Migration Engineer to plan and carry out the migration of on-premise workloads to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will assess the current environment, design the target GCP setup, and move servers, applications and databases to Google Cloud securely, with minimal downtime and no data loss. You will work closely with infrastructure, application and security teams through to the final cutover.
⚠️ Must Have: Proven hands-on experience migrating on-premise workloads to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Applications without on-premise to Google Cloud migration experience will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Assess on-premise infrastructure, applications and dependencies using tools such as Google Cloud Migration Center to determine which workloads are ready to move.
- Define the migration strategy for each workload (rehost, replatform or refactor) and plan the migration waves.
- Design and build the GCP landing zone, including VPC networking, IAM, organisation and folder structure, and security controls.
- Migrate servers and virtual machines to Compute Engine using Migrate to Virtual Machines.
- Migrate databases to Cloud SQL, AlloyDB or other GCP database services using Google Cloud Database Migration Service.
- Move data to Google Cloud using Storage Transfer Service or Transfer Appliance where needed.
- Containerise and move suitable applications to Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Plan and run cutovers and rollback plans, and test thoroughly to keep downtime to a minimum.
- Make sure migrated workloads meet security, compliance and data residency requirements.
- Optimise GCP workloads after migration for performance, cost and reliability.
- Set up monitoring, logging, backup and disaster recovery using Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging.
- Create clear documentation, runbooks and handover materials for operations teams.
Requirements
- Must: Hands-on experience migrating on-premise workloads to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Experience with only other clouds or private cloud (VMware, OpenStack) is not sufficient.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field.
- [X]+ years of experience in cloud or infrastructure engineering.
- Hands-on experience with GCP migration tools such as Migrate to Virtual Machines, Database Migration Service, Migration Center and Storage Transfer Service.
- Strong knowledge of core GCP services: Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC, IAM, Cloud SQL and GKE.
- Strong understanding of on-premise environments (VMware, Hyper-V, Windows/Linux servers, storage and networking).
- Knowledge of hybrid connectivity (Cloud VPN, Cloud Interconnect), cloud security, and backup and disaster recovery.
- Experience with Terraform and scripting (Bash, Python or PowerShell).
- Strong problem-solving, documentation and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Google Cloud certifications: Professional Cloud Architect, Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer or Professional Cloud Network Engineer.
- Experience with ServiceNow or migrating ITSM platforms to the cloud.
- Experience migrating databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) to GCP.
- Experience in the Saudi or GCC market, including local data residency requirements.
