About the role
When you work at Trex, you’re helping to grow and enhance a true original. You join a company that boldly launched an entire industry… and still leads the way.
As Director, Manufacturing Operations FP&A, you will lead the financial planning, analysis, and decision-support for operational excellence, procurement, and logistics. This role establishes the operating-finance framework, translates operational drivers into financial outcomes, and provides forward-looking insight to improve cost competitiveness, capacity utilization, service, working capital, and capital allocation. The Director serves as a strategic partner to plant, supply chain, procurement, logistics, engineering, finance, and corporate leadership; owns the integrity and consistency of operational forecasts and KPIs; and drives accountability for performance and corrective actions across the network.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Put safety first – Always!
- Lead and foster our “people first” culture.
- Forecasting & Planning
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting for manufacturing, procurement, and logistics, including volume, material costs, inbound and outbound freight, warehousing, and distribution costs.
- Establish and govern driver-based models that project operational and financial performance under multiple demand, production, sourcing, commodity, freight, and capacity scenarios.
- Direct the cross-functional planning process with operations, engineering, procurement, logistics, and supply chain leaders to validate assumptions, reconcile operational plans, and align forecast inputs.
- Own the annual operating plan and long-range financial planning processes for the manufacturing network, including productivity roadmaps, capacity requirements, sourcing strategies, logistics costs, and capital needs.
- Prepare bridge analyses that clearly explain financial forecast-to-forecast and forecast-to-plan variances.
- Develop executive-level scenarios and recommendations that quantify trade-offs among cost, capacity, inventory, customer service, sourcing risk, and capital deployment.
- Define planning standards, calendars, assumptions, and review routines to improve forecast accuracy and accountability across functions and locations.
- Operational & Financial Analysis
- Analyze actual manufacturing results including productivity, material usage, downtime, labor efficiency, machine utilization, and OEE.
- Deliver monthly financial KPI reporting packages with clear commentary and recommendations.
- Perform variance analysis on production costs, inventory, and plant performance.
- Investigate root causes of unfavorable trends and partner on corrective actions.
- Monitor and analyze inventory accuracy, production variances, waste, and yield.
- Evaluate cost impacts of engineering changes, process improvements, and capital projects.
- Procurement & Logistics FP&A
- Lead financial planning and performance analysis for direct and indirect procurement, inbound and outbound logistics, warehousing, distribution, and third-party service providers.
- Partner with procurement to evaluate supplier negotiations, sourcing events, make-versus-buy decisions, contract economics, commodity exposure, purchase price variance, and total cost of ownership.
- Partner with logistics and operations to analyze freight rates, mode and carrier mix, fuel and accessorial charges, network design, warehouse productivity, inventory positioning, detention, demurrage, and service-level trade-offs.
- Build savings and productivity governance that validates baselines, timing, one-time costs, risk adjustments, and realized P&L and cash-flow benefits.
- Provide financial support for supplier and carrier scorecards, procurement pipelines, logistics bids, and network-optimization initiatives.
- Assess working-capital implications of sourcing and logistics decisions, including payment terms, order quantities, lead times, safety stock, inventory turns, and obsolescence risk.
- Leadership & Business Partnership
- Serve as the senior finance advisor to manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and corporate leadership, shaping decisions and constructively challenging operating assumptions.
- Present concise, decision-oriented insights and recommendations to executive leadership, including risks, opportunities, sensitivities, and required actions.
- Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing FP&A team; set priorities, establish performance expectations, provide coaching, and build succession and analytical capabilities.
- Build strong relationships across operations, engineering, procurement, logistics, supply chain, accounting, treasury, and finance while maintaining clear ownership and accountability.
- Create and maintain standardized KPI definitions, reporting governance, and management review routines across the manufacturing and supply chain network.
- Sponsor process, data, and systems improvements that increase forecast quality, analytical speed, scalability, and decision usefulness.
- Influence cross-functional leaders without direct authority and ensure agreed actions are assigned, measured, and completed.
- Other duties as assigned
