The Opportunity

Successful projects don't happen by accident. They are delivered through strong governance, disciplined execution, effective project controls, and leaders who give teams the tools and support they need to succeed.

WSP is seeking an experienced and passionate project delivery leader to join our Earth & Environment team as Director, Project Governance, BC & Yukon. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the project management function across one of WSP's largest and most diverse regions. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Earth & Environment, BC & Yukon, you will establish and drive a regional project governance and project management office (PMO) approach that strengthens consistency, accountability, and delivery performance across a diverse portfolio of environmental engineering projects.

As the leader responsible for project governance, project controls and project management capability, you will oversee our Project Controllers and Project Control Administrators while building the systems, processes, tools and performance rhythms that enable successful project delivery. You will work closely with operational leaders and project teams to improve project outcomes, strengthen commercial performance, enhance project management capability and create a more predictable and disciplined approach to delivering work.

This role is ideal for someone energized by project management excellence, governance, continuous improvement and helping others succeed. If you are passionate about creating the frameworks, insights and support systems that allow teams to consistently deliver successful outcomes for clients and the business, we would love to hear from you.

Your Impact

  • Establish and lead the project governance framework for BC & Yukon Earth & Environment, creating greater consistency, accountability and discipline across project delivery.
  • Drive adoption of project management standards, tools and best practices to improve execution, predictability, risk management and client outcomes.
  • Oversee portfolio performance, using data and project reviews to identify risks, address underperformance and support proactive decision-making and escalation.
  • Lead and develop Project Controllers and Project Control Administrators, aligning resources and capabilities to provide consistent, effective support across the region.
  • Strengthen project management capability through coaching, training, practical tools and knowledge sharing, while acting as a trusted advisor to leaders and project teams.
  • Partner with operations, finance, commercial, risk and legal teams to strengthen project controls, forecasting, change management and commercial performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned to enhance project delivery, profitability and operational effectiveness.
  • Support strategic pursuits, complex projects, business planning and regional priorities by ensuring governance, project readiness and delivery risks are effectively considered.

The Skills that Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification or designation such as PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent project governance, risk, or program management credentials considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in project management, project controls, program oversight, governance, or professional consulting environments.
  • Proven experience overseeing complex, multidisciplinary project portfolios and supporting successful project delivery across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, project controls, commercial management, and performance reporting.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational change, continuous improvement, and capability-building initiatives.
  • Experience identifying and managing financial, operational, contractual, regulatory, and project delivery risks.
  • Strong business acumen, financial literacy, and an ability to translate project performance data into actionable business insights.
  • Experience working with enterprise project and financial management systems, such as Oracle, to support governance, forecasting, and decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executives, operational leaders, project sponsors, and project teams.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a proven ability to influence, drive accountability, and achieve results in a matrixed environment without direct authority.
  • A passion for project delivery excellence, continuous improvement, and helping project teams achieve successful outcomes for clients and the business.
