Job Description
What if you could be the technical architect behind the partnerships that bring AI and workflow technology into legal practice, and you were accountable for whether those solutions actually work for customers? As Director, Partner Solutions Architect (PSA) for Legal on our Partnerships & Alliances team, you will lead the technical design of solutions that combine Thomson Reuters legal content and technology with our strategic partners' platforms. You will set architecture standards for partner offerings and make sure they are scoped, secure, and ready to sell before we commit to customers. You will work across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Legal theater leaders to turn partner opportunities into solutions customers can adopt. You will lead a team of solutions architects, guide technical due diligence on partners, and serve as the trusted technical voice in conversations with partner executives. This role combines deep technical judgment, customer empathy, and the discipline to hold partners to the commitments they make.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design
- Define the reference architecture for partner-delivered legal solutions, including integration patterns, data flows, and security and privacy controls.
- Translate partner capabilities and customer workflows in legal practice into scoped, buildable solution designs.
- Review and approve technical designs for partner offerings before commitments are made to customers or Sales.
Partner Technical Due Diligence
- Assess partner platforms, APIs, and AI models for technical fit, scalability, reliability, and compliance with legal industry requirements.
- Evaluate partner security, data residency, and model governance practices, and document the risks that need mitigation.
- Advise Partnerships on which technical capabilities warrant investment and which should be limited in scope.
Customer Solution Engagement
- Lead technical discovery and solution workshops with prospective customers, including law firms and corporate legal departments.
- Design proofs of concept and pilots that demonstrate partner-integrated offerings with early customers.
- Support Sales with technical positioning, objection handling, and solution proposals in complex deals.
Product & Engineering Alignment
- Work with Product to shape the partner roadmap, prioritize integration work, and resolve gaps between partner commitments and product capacity.
- Partner with Engineering on integration delivery, release readiness, and technical support models for partner solutions.
- Bring customer and partner feedback into product planning so that solutions improve with each deployment.
Delivery Quality & Accountability
- Establish technical success criteria and health metrics for each partner solution, and monitor them after launch.
- Lead technical reviews and escalation response when partner-delivered solutions fall short of commitments.
- Recommend whether partner solutions should be scaled, fixed, or retired based on technical performance and customer outcomes.
Team Leadership & Standards
- Set goals and direction for the solutions architecture team, and manage performance and development for each team member.
- Build architecture standards, reusable reference assets, and a shared knowledge base across the Legal theater.
- Coach and mentor solutions architects, and grow the team's technical depth in AI, integration, and legal domain workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in solutions architecture, software engineering, or technical consulting, including at least five years leading architecture for enterprise software or platform partnerships.
- Hands-on experience designing integrations with partner APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise data systems.
- Experience designing AI or machine learning enabled solutions, including retrieval, model integration, and evaluation approaches.
- Track record of translating technical designs into commercial offerings with Product, Sales, and Partnerships teams.
- Experience leading and developing a team of technical professionals, including setting goals, managing performance, and coaching.
- Strong knowledge of security, privacy, and compliance requirements for handling confidential client and legal information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in legal technology, legal publishing, or professional services software.
- Presales experience.
- Familiarity with legal workflows such as legal research, contract review, litigation support, or legal operations.
- Experience with cloud and AI ecosystem partner programs (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Anthropic).
- A law degree or equivalent legal industry experience, or an advanced degree in computer science or engineering.
