About the role
We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
Product Creation and Industrialization (PC&I) brings together Ford’s vehicle, electric, digital and design teams with our global manufacturing system. Working as one end-to-end organization, we turn ideas into high-quality vehicles, software and experiences across gas, hybrid and electric, designed around what customers need.
In this position...
Support hands-on electrical and electronic lab activities, including evaluation, troubleshooting, repair, and rework of electronic assemblies and prototype systems. The successful candidate will bring practical lab or technician
experience and a strong foundation in soldering and electronics; they need not be a specialist in every listed technique. They will follow work instructions and quality requirements, document results, and collaborate with engineers and technicians to resolve issues.
What you'll do...
• Assist with inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and rework of electronic assemblies and lab hardware.
• Perform basic through-hole and surface-mount soldering and component replacement, with guidance or escalation for advanced rework as needed.
• Help identify damaged components, solder joints, traces, or connections; support repairs such as solder touch-up, bridging, and wicking when trained and appropriate.
• Use lab tools such as soldering irons, hot-air equipment, magnification or microscopes, digital multimeters, and oscilloscopes to inspect and test assemblies.
• Read and follow schematics, datasheets, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and other technical documentation.
• Support setup and execution of bench tests, inspections, and functional checks; record observations and results accurately.
• Maintain an orderly, safe lab workspace and handle tools, components, and electronic assemblies with care.
• Collaborate with engineers and other technicians, communicate findings, and seek guidance when issues exceed current skill or authorization.
• Contribute ideas to improve lab, repair, and documentation processes.
You'll have...
Hands-on experience in an electronics lab, repair, assembly, prototyping, manufacturing, or related technician
environment; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• Basic working knowledge of electronics and common electronic components, with willingness to learn more advanced
circuit concepts.
• Experience or demonstrated aptitude with soldering and electronic assembly rework; ability to develop proficiency in
through-hole and surface-mount work.
• Comfort using common bench equipment, especially a digital multimeter; familiarity with oscilloscopes and hot-air rework
tools is beneficial.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures, interpret technical instructions, and maintain careful, accurate records.
• Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, attention to detail, and commitment to quality and safe work practices.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the judgment to ask for help when appropriate.
Preferred, Not Required
• Experience with PCB repair, surface-mount component rework, microscopes, or electronic troubleshooting.
• IPC-A-610 or IPC-7711/7721 familiarity or certification; training can be developed on the job.
