About the role
The International School of Busan seeks an experienced, collaborative, and student-centred educational leader to serve as Elementary Principal / Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator. This position provides both instructional leadership and operational oversight of the Elementary School, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student is supported and challenged to reach their full potential.
Reporting directly to the Head of School and serving as a member of the Educational Leadership Team (ELT), the Elementary Principal / PYP Coordinator is responsible for leading faculty, overseeing daily school operations, supporting student wellbeing, and fostering strong partnerships with families. Key responsibilities include teacher recruitment, supervision and evaluation, professional development, student admissions and placement, parent communication, student behaviour, scheduling, and resource management.
As PYP Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide pedagogical leadership for the IB Primary Years Programme, ensuring high-quality inquiry-based teaching, curriculum development, assessment practices, and horizontal and vertical articulation of the Programme of Inquiry. The role includes mentoring teachers, facilitating collaborative planning, supporting professional learning, and ensuring ongoing alignment with IB standards and programme requirements. The Principal will also work closely with other programme coordinators and the Director of Teaching and Learning to strengthen continuity across the PYP, MYP, and DP.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and organisational skills, a deep understanding of the IB philosophy, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and safeguarding. Experience in international school leadership, curriculum development, and building positive school cultures is highly desirable.
Above all, the successful candidate will be a visible, approachable, and inspiring leader who values relationships, promotes professional collaboration, and places students at the centre of every decision while contributing to the continued growth and success of the ISB community.
