Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.  

Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead and coordinate Control Systems and Instrumentation engineering activities for assigned projects or project areas. You will supervise engineering personnel, manage technical execution, support staffing and work-planning activities, and ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes and standards, Bechtel procedures, schedule commitments, and budget objectives. You will provide technical leadership, coordinate with project stakeholders, and support the development of engineering personnel while promoting safe, reliable, constructible, and cost-effective project solutions. 

Major Responsibilities:

• Planning, developing, directing, and participating in day-to-day Control Systems and Instrumentation engineering activities for small- to medium-sized projects or assigned portions of major projects.
• Applying Engineering Department Procedures, design standards, guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs, and project-specific requirements to discipline execution.
• Supervising, coordinating, and reviewing the work of assigned engineers, designers, and drafters, including estimating staffing requirements, developing resource plans, and assigning work based on project priorities and schedules.
• Preparing or overseeing discipline estimates, work plans, budgets, schedules, and staffing plans, while monitoring performance against approved project requirements.
• Providing technical input for procurement activities, including specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, supplier evaluations, and award recommendations.
• Coordinating with client representatives, project engineering teams, other disciplines, suppliers, contractors, construction personnel, and other Bechtel offices to support integrated project execution.
• Reviewing and approving key calculations, design documents, drawings, supplier data, material specifications, technical evaluations, and change-order documentation within delegated authority.
• Providing technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, training, and development opportunities to assigned personnel.
• Conducting or leading special studies related to new technologies, engineering methods, systems, materials, and work processes relevant to the Control Systems discipline.
• Providing technical guidance and resolving engineering issues raised by clients, suppliers, construction personnel, and other project stakeholders.
• Assisting in the preparation and review of project procedures, design criteria, technical reports, proposals, forecasts, cost estimates, trends, and change documentation.
• Monitoring engineering quality, design quantities, schedules, budgets, interfaces, and technical risks, while communicating significant issues to project and functional management.
• Promoting compliance with applicable codes, standards, project requirements, quality expectations, and approved responsibilities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Extensive experience in Control Systems and Instrumentation engineering for industrial or Mining and Metals projects.  
• Strong knowledge of distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation systems, control valves, and industrial automation systems.  
• Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise, coordinate, and review engineering activities, including staffing, budgeting, scheduling, work assignment, and performance monitoring.  
• Experience developing and reviewing design criteria, engineering calculations, specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, supplier documentation, and discipline deliverables.  
• Strong understanding of applicable industry codes, standards, regulations, engineering procedures, and project design criteria.  
• Ability to coordinate technical activities across engineering disciplines, project functions, suppliers, construction teams, clients, and participating offices.  
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, mentoring, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and team-development skills.  
• Working knowledge of engineering work planning, cost control, schedule control, quantity development, change management, and technical risk management.  
• Proficiency in Smart Instrumentation or an equivalent instrumentation engineering database and Microsoft Office applications.  
• Intermediate English proficiency.  

Preferred Qualifications  

• Experience with control-system and industrial communications architecture for Mining and Metals facilities.  
• Experience with OT networks, industrial cybersecurity, Ethernet network design, and industrial communication protocols.  
• Experience with CCTV, access control, fire detection, fiber-optic infrastructure, or other project-related supporting systems.  
• Experience with DCS, PLC, SIS, SCADA, or packaged control-system procurement and integration.  
• Construction engineering, field engineering, commissioning, startup, FAT, SAT, or interoperability-testing experience.  
• Experience coordinating engineering execution across multiple offices or participating entities.

Principales Responsabilidades

• Planificar, desarrollar, dirigir y participar en actividades de ingeniería de Sistemas de Control e Instrumentación para proyectos pequeños y medianos o porciones asignadas de proyectos mayores.

• Supervisar, coordinar y revisar el trabajo de ingenieros/as, diseñadores/as y dibujantes asignados, incluyendo la estimación de personal, el desarrollo de planes de recursos y la asignación de trabajo según prioridades y cronogramas del proyecto.
• Preparar o supervisar estimaciones, planes de trabajo, presupuestos, cronogramas y planes de dotación de personal, monitoreando su desempeño respecto a los requisitos aprobados del proyecto.
• Proporcionar soporte técnico para adquisiciones, incluyendo especificaciones, requisiciones de materiales, evaluaciones técnicas de ofertas y proveedores, y recomendaciones para adjudicación.
