About the role
[What the role is]
You will be part of the Civil Design & Innovation team responsible for the research, development and implementation of innovative and sustainable civil engineering solutions in HDB estates. A key area of work will involve the implementation of water sustainability and civil infrastructure projects, including managing projects from design and construction through testing, completion and handover.Beyond project implementation, you will have opportunities to initiate and manage research and innovation projects to address infrastructure challenges and improve sustainability, resilience and productivity in HDB towns. These may include automation and robotics, artificial intelligence, low-embodied-carbon materials, sustainable roads and pavements, water sustainability and other emerging infrastructure technologies.
[What you will be working on]
You will manage civil engineering projects and work closely with consultants, contractors, Town Councils, government agencies, research institutions and industry partners. Your work will include:
- Manage water sustainability and civil infrastructure projects from design and construction through testing, completion and handover, including monitoring progress and resolving site and technical issues.
- Review C&S designs, drawings, technical and authority submissions, and work with consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Manage key project and contractual matters, including progress claims, variations, outstanding works and submissions, inspections, as-built documentation and project close-out.
- Support performance monitoring and post-implementation evaluation of solutions, and apply lessons learnt to improve specifications and future deployment.
- Initiate and manage R&D and innovation projects, from identifying infrastructure challenges and developing proposals through test-bedding, validation and practical implementation.
- Explore emerging solutions such as AI, automation and robotics, sustainable roads and pavements, low-embodied-carbon materials, water sustainability and other technologies that improve infrastructure resilience and productivity.
- Collaborate with research institutions, industry partners and Town Councils to develop and test-bed solutions, evaluate outcomes against measurable KPIs and facilitate wider adoption.
[What we are looking for]
You should have a background in Civil and Structural Engineering or a related discipline, with preferably at least 5 years of relevant experience in civil/infrastructure engineering and project management.
You should have good practical civil engineering knowledge and experience in managing infrastructure works, including design and technical reviews, authority submissions, construction, testing and commissioning, contract administration and project handover.
Experience in drainage and water infrastructure, roads and driveways, geotechnical works, or works within existing developments would be advantageous.
Experience or a strong interest in R&D and innovation in areas such as automation, robotics, AI, low-embodied-carbon materials and sustainable infrastructure will be an added advantage. You should be able to develop and manage research projects and translate promising outcomes into practical engineering applications.
You should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, be able to identify technical and project issues independently and follow through on their resolution. You should also be a strong communicator with good stakeholder and contractor management skills, and have a proactive, hands-on and “can-do” mindset.
Successful candidates will be offered a 1+1 year contract.
