About the role
Role Overview
The Senior Technical Advisor is a hands-on field expert and the first escalation point for ASC’s field service teams. This is not a desk job or a hands-off consulting role: you advise by doing. When a crew hits a wall on a complex installation, an electrical controls issue or a mechanical failure, you travel to the site, pick up your tools and solve the problem, working side by side with the crew or on your own.
The role reports to the Field Service Manager, with a direct line to Field Service leadership. Your field findings, identified design issues and corrective actions go straight to leadership and Engineering to keep improving how ASC builds its equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Field Escalation and Troubleshooting
- Serve as the first escalation point for the toughest mechanical and electrical issues on heavy diesel generators, switchgear, acoustic enclosures and base tanks.
- Advise by doing: physically execute the work, troubleshoot control panels and lead by example as a peer and problem solver.
- Deploy on short notice to lead technical recovery efforts during major equipment failures or site incidents.
Testing, Quality and Commissioning
- Lead on-site testing to verify equipment is built and performing correctly, including mechanical, electrical and tank testing (fuel, DEF, air and stack testing).
- Document test results and provide clear feedback to the ASC Quality Control team.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement
- Document exactly what failed on site and how it was fixed, then present findings directly to Field Service leadership and Engineering.
- Identify recurring design or build issues and recommend corrective actions that improve how ASC builds its equipment.
Crew Mentorship and Technician Development
- Teach field crews better diagnostic and build methods while actively working the job alongside them.
- When not traveling, develop less experienced technicians: identify skill gaps they may not recognize and strengthen their technical knowledge, troubleshooting ability and hands-on skills so they can work more independently.
- Model safe work practices on every site and follow ASC and customer safety requirements.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on field service, troubleshooting and commissioning experience in the commercial power generation industry.
- Deep understanding of heavy diesel engines, generator controls, electrical schematics and bulk fuel storage.
- Fully comfortable operating standard power tools and heavy rigging equipment, whether working with a crew or solo.
- Strong communicator who speaks plainly and practically with field crews, customers and ASC leadership, and delivers clear, candid, fact-based reports to management.
- Willingness to travel 60%–80% of the time, deploying wherever the work is happening.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that qualifies for a company vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- OEM certifications (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, MTU).
- Experience with custom acoustic enclosures and UL-listed fuel systems.
- OSHA 30 certification.
What We Offer
- Company truck provided for field travel and site work.
- All tools and equipment required for the role provided.
- Health, dental and vision; company-paid life, short-term and long-term disability; accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity options.
- 401(k) with a generous company match and immediate vesting.
- Paid time off and holidays; Employee Assistance Program; training, certification and educational reimbursement.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to travel 60%–80% of the time, including short-notice deployments and overnight stays.
- Ability to work on active job sites and in manufacturing environments, including outdoors in varying weather.
- Ability to stand, climb, kneel and work in tight spaces for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work extended hours, nights or weekends when equipment failures or site emergencies require it.
