We believe responsible mining is essential to supplying the minerals and metals needed for modern infrastructure, technology and the energy transition. As part of HDR’s Global Mining Practice, you’ll help clients safely and responsibly advance, operate and close mining assets. Our multidisciplinary teams support the full mine life cycle—from resource development, planning, permitting and feasibility through detailed design, construction, operations, water and mine waste management, and closure and reclamation. You’ll connect clients with integrated technical, environmental, water, power, infrastructure and advisory solutions that improve project outcomes and create long-term value.
Are you a strategic leader with strong mining-industry relationships and a track record of converting client needs into sustained growth? HDR is seeking a Global Mining Practice Business Development Leader to lead client engagement, strategic account development, major pursuits and market growth across a dynamic global mining sector.
Why HDR?
At HDR, we bring together mining, water, environmental, transportation, power, industrial architecture, communications and advisory expertise to solve complex challenges across the mine life cycle. As a leader in our Global Mining Practice, you’ll have access to a broad network of technical professionals, client relationships and delivery resources. You’ll help focus those capabilities on the mining clients, geographies, commodities and opportunities where HDR can deliver distinctive value and build durable market positions.
What You’ll Do:
As the Global Mining Practice Business Development Lead, you will:
- Lead Mining Practice Growth: Establish and execute a global business development strategy that grows bookings, revenue, backlog and market share in priority mining markets.
- Build Strategic Client Relationships: Serve as a trusted advisor to mining companies and key partners, with a clear understanding of their assets, capital programs, operating priorities and decision-making processes.
- Drive Major Pursuits: Lead capture planning, positioning and proposal strategy for complex, high-value mining opportunities, including multidisciplinary and alternative-delivery assignments.
- Shape Market Strategy: Translate commodity outlooks, regional investment patterns, regulatory drivers and client capital plans into focused account, geography and service-line priorities.
- Connect Integrated Capabilities: Align mining, water, environmental, power, transportation, infrastructure, industrial architecture, communications and advisory resources around client needs and differentiated solutions.
- Develop the Team: Coach and train client managers, technical leaders and pursuit teams in account planning, relationship development, capture management and client-focused communication.
Strengthen Market Presence: Build strategic partnerships, elevate HDR’s mining brand and help recruit business development and technical talent aligned with the Practice’s growth priorities.

- Support the Mining Practice Lead in development of growth priorities and investment decisions for the Industrial Resources Business Group leadership and regional operations.
- Lead strategic account planning for priority mining clients, including relationship mapping, opportunity forecasting, client feedback and measurable action plans.
- Build and qualify a balanced pipeline of consulting, engineering, design, program management, owner’s engineer, construction-phase and advisory opportunities across the mine life cycle.
- Lead go/no-go decisions and major pursuit teams in developing client-focused capture plans, differentiators, teaming strategies, pricing approaches and executive engagement plans.
- Coordinate across HDR business groups and geographies to present integrated solutions and deploy the best-qualified teams for mining clients.
- Serve as Client Manager for selected strategic accounts, maintaining executive-level relationships and a current understanding of each client’s organization, assets, priorities and upcoming investments.
