About the role
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is a district on the rise, serving over 325,000 students in 500+ schools and employing over 45,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. Aligned with our transformed philosophy, we are steadfastly focused on ensuring that the District provides resources equitably to support every student, every school, and every community. Six core values guide the work we do every day for our students – student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning. Each role in the district supports our vision that every student deserves a rigorous, joyful, and equitable learning experience.
The Office of Teaching and Learning provides school administrators and teachers with the professional learning and resources needed to engage students in rich and rewarding learning experiences. The Office is comprised of various academic and support departments, which work collaboratively to support students’ growth and progress in meeting or exceeding state standards for academic excellence.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Instructional Systems and Supports, the Grading Practices Coordinator will work closely with colleagues in the development of a district grading policy and an equity action plan to address and adjust the district’s current grading practices. Designated to support either elementary schools or high schools, this position will be responsible for ensuring that their respective schools in the district are implementing equitable grading practices aligned with all district grading policies, as well as ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient grading for those schools. This is a full-time exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis.

- Review and assess grading policies and practices to identify opportunities to advance equity and consistency
- Monitor systems and processes that support the implementation of district grading policies and practices
- Support the district-wide implementation of the Comprehensive Grading Guidelines
- Develop and maintain guidance, resources, and tools to support consistent local implementation of grading policies
- Provide targeted technical assistance to schools in developing school-level grading practices aligned with district guidelines
- Identify implementation needs and collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen grading practices, systems, and supports across schools
- Serve as the primary point of contact for schools regarding grading policies, practices, and implementation.
- Support the evaluation and resolution of grade-related appeals associated with Summer Bridge programming
- Collaborate with the Student Information System (SIS/Aspen) team to develop, coordinate, and manage the annual grade reporting calendar
- Other duties as assigned
