About the role

Job description:

Edison House is a social club located in downtown Salt Lake City, offering a brand new 30,000 square foot clubhouse which includes two restaurant concepts, four bars, workout facility, private event space, concert venue, and rooftop pool.

Job Summary

What: We are seeking to build a team of creative, ambitious, self-starters who are looking to be a part of a one-of-a-kind project in Salt Lake. Making special moments for our members is the backbone of our culture and we empower each of our employees to go above and beyond.

Why: The Host is the first face our members and guests see and the last one they say goodbye to. Every visit to Edison House begins and ends at the host stand, and the tone you set in those first moments shapes the entire experience. Working in hospitality is so much more than seating tables.

How: Through warmth, poise, and boundless energy, our host team will welcome members and their guests by name, manage the flow of our dining rooms, and set our servers and kitchen up for a smooth, well-paced service.

To be successful as a Host you will need to be:

  • Polished, articulate, and genuinely welcoming, with a natural instinct for high-touch service
  • Able to learn and recognize our members, and to greet each one with warmth and discretion
  • Skilled at managing reservations, waitlists, and table flow during busy, fast-moving services
  • Calm, composed, and positive under pressure, even when the door is full
  • Familiar with our menus, bars, and club amenities well enough to answer guest questions and direct them with confidence
  • Proficient with reservation and POS systems (Toast and OpenTable a plus)
  • Team-oriented, and able to communicate clearly with servers, bartenders, managers, and chefs
  • Reliable availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays

Regular duties for the Restaurant Host:

  • Greet and welcome every member and guest with a warm, personal hello, and thank them sincerely on departure.
  • Manage reservations, walk-ins, and the waitlist, quoting accurate wait times and setting honest expectations.
  • Seat guests in a balanced rotation that respects server sections, pacing of the kitchen, and member preferences.
  • Answer phones and messages professionally, taking reservations and answering questions about the club and its restaurants.
  • Confirm membership and guest status at the door in accordance with club policy.
  • Note member preferences, special occasions, and dietary needs, and pass them to the service team ahead of arrival.
  • Communicate closely with servers and managers on table status, turn times, and large-party or event timing.
  • Keep the host stand, entry, and waiting areas clean, organized, and stocked with menus and supplies.
  • Handle guest concerns with grace and escalate to a manager promptly when needed.
  • Receptive to feedback and coaching, and eager to grow within the hospitality team.
  • Professional appearance and grooming standards appropriate for a premier fine dining restaurant.

Who:

The best hosts exemplify the characteristics they wish others to emulate. To that end, our ideal candidate must demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Organized Self Starter – Edison House is a fast-paced environment. Hosts must be able to successfully prioritize and execute tasks through their own initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Culture Focused Teammate – Hyper-focused on building a strong company culture by championing excellence, autonomy, self-improvement, and healthy work relationships.
