Inclement Weather Center - Kitchen Assistant (8807)

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized, non-profit organization, has a job opening for a Kitchen Assistant for the Inclement Weather Center located in Columbia, SC.

Job Summary

Assists in the preparation, delivery, and serving of meals; cleans kitchen equipment and washes dishes; sweeps, mops, and waxes floors. Stocks foods, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner. Empties trash cans. Performs all kitchen work in accordance with health regulations as it relates to food preparation, food serving, and storage. Assists in monitoring the work of volunteers working in the kitchen. Drives a van & loading/unloading prepared foods for service.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques. Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals.

Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances. Ability to clean kitchen and dining area. Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.

Materials and Equipment

Refrigerators, freezers, kitchen, dishes and utensils, mop and broom.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers. Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting, relieved by lesser periods of sitting.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

One year of experience working in a kitchen is preferred,

Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

License and Certification

Valid State Driver’s License (REQUIRED)
