About the role
We’re looking for an Intermediate Interior Designer to join our award-winning institutional interior design team in DIALOG’s Toronto studio. Working across post-secondary, civic and healthcare projects, we create thoughtful, inclusive environments that respond to the people and communities they serve.
Our team combines creative design thinking with technical rigour and a collaborative approach. We work closely with clients and users to understand their needs, translate them into a clear design vision, and carry that vision through detailing, documentation and construction.
You’ll join a team of interior designers who care deeply about their work, enjoy collaborating and bring energy and enthusiasm to the design process. We share ideas openly, support one another and celebrate our successes together. You’ll contribute to large, complex projects, take ownership of your work and grow your design and technical capabilities within a team that values curiosity, shared knowledge and attention to detail.
How you'll make a difference:
- Contribute to client and user engagement, visioning and functional programming to understand project needs and inform the design.
- Develop interior design concepts, space plans, material palettes and details that respond to each project’s vision, users and operational requirements.
- Prepare compelling presentations, including material boards, renderings, and 2D and 3D design drawings, to communicate ideas to clients and project teams.
- Develop coordinated drawings, schedules and specifications from schematic design through construction documents.
- Collaborate with architecture, engineering and other disciplines to integrate interior design throughout the project.
- Select and specify materials, finishes, furniture and equipment, and prepare furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) documentation.
- Apply building code, accessibility and project requirements to support safe, inclusive and functional environments.
- Support construction administration through shop drawing and submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, site visits and field reviews.
- Participate in deficiency reviews and furniture installation reviews to support the successful completion of projects.
Who you are:
- An interior designer with 5–8 years of relevant experience, including work on institutional projects such as post-secondary, civic or healthcare facilities.
- A graduate of a bachelor’s degree program in interior design or a related field (NCIDQ certification is an asset).
- A thoughtful designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking, space planning, material selection and attention to detail.
- Experienced in developing technical drawings and coordinating interior design within large, complex buildings.
- Proficient in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite, with experience in 3D modelling and visualization (Blender, SketchUp or Rhino experience is an asset).
- Able to translate a design vision into thoughtful, functional spaces and well-resolved details.
- Attentive and thorough, with a commitment to coordinated documentation and quality project delivery.
- Interested in universal design, sustainability and the relationship between the built environment and wellbeing.
- A dependable collaborator who takes ownership of your work, communicates priorities and challenges, and contributes to shared project goals.
- Comfortable building relationships with clients, consultants and colleagues through listening, clear communication and follow-through.
- Generous in sharing knowledge, receptive to feedback and motivated to grow within a supportive team.
