About the role

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurology is interested in hiring a Laboratory Research Technician to join a translational neuromuscular research group. The laboratory technician will perform a variety of independent laboratory work including executing experimental protocols, collecting and analyzing data, and generating research figures for neurodegenerative diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Dementia. The technician will assist with inventory, ordering, and training of fellow lab members. To perform these tasks well, meticulous record keeping of research data and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are prerequisites. Following training from the principal investigator and/or senior research staff, the research assistant is expected to perform tasks with minor supervision. A qualified candidate should have at least a bachelor’s degree in biological science or equivalent and at least 2 years’ experience in a biomedical research setting. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in human iPSC culture, immunofluorescence microscopy, molecular biology and murine colony management will be preferred. This is a full-time, in-person position; experimental timelines (cell and tissue culture, live-cell imaging, and animal work) require consistent daily presence and occasional flexibility outside standard hours.

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

immunofluorescence staining, & confocal microscopy).
• Analyze research data and generate graphs using tools such as GraphPad Prism, MATLAB, Python, Fiji, and Imaris.
• Generate scientific figures using BioRender and Adobe Illustrator.
• Maintain a detailed lab notebook and records of experimental procedures.
• Maintain a detailed archive of digital research records using the laboratory server.2. Oversee mouse colony management, breeding, genotyping, and record-keeping (10%
