Description
LIVESTOCK DRIVER - CDL CLASS A
At Knupp Farms Inc., we specialize in safe, dependable livestock hauling for hog producers across the region. We’re a family-run company based in Washington, Iowa, and we have been keeping hogs moving for more than 45 years.
Join Our Team!
We’re looking for a hardworking and dependable CDL Livestock Driver to haul hogs on regional runs within 150–175 miles of our Washington, IA shop. If you’re a driver who is comfortable around animals, takes pride in a clean truck, and wants a long-term career instead of another short stop, this opportunity is for you!
About Us
Knupp Farms is a family business, not a mega-carrier. Our drivers have assigned trucks, regional routes, and people they know on the other end of the phone. We are looking for drivers who want to build a career with us and grow alongside the business.
What This Job Is Really Like
We want you to know exactly what you are signing up for. Hauling hogs is not a sit-in-the-seat job. It means early mornings, loading and unloading animals yourself, and washing out after loads. It is physical, it can be messy, and the schedule follows the animals. You will be in the truck during the week and home most weekends, with weekend rotation in the Fall through Winter. If that sounds like your kind of work, we would love to talk. If not, we would rather you know now.
Why You’ll Love This Role
As the CDL Livestock Driver, you’ll:
- Haul hogs safely between farms to processing plants on regional routes
- Load and unload hogs yourself using calm, low-stress handling, and bump docks at farms and plants
- Follow each farm’s biosecurity rules on every load, including truck washouts, clean boots and coveralls, and required downtime between sites
- Drive with animal welfare in mind, adjusting for weather, heat, and trailer ventilation
- Take ownership of your assigned truck with daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report maintenance issues right away
- Keep dispatch and farm managers updated on load times, delays, and any animal concerns
What We’re Looking For
- Valid Class A CDL with a safe driving record
- Able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Comfortable doing physical work every day, including walking pens, climbing in and out of trailers, and working in heat, cold, and weather conditions
- Experience with hogs or other livestock (farm, 4-H, sale barn, or hauling) strongly preferred, not required
- Able to commit to being out during the week and home most weekends, including early morning or overnight loads
Why You’ll Love Working at Knupp Farms:
We believe in taking care of our drivers, offering a pay and benefits package designed to help you thrive:
- Pay That Rewards the Work: Earn percentage of every load you successfully haul.
- Home on Weekends: Over the road all week, home on the weekends.
- Your Own Truck: Assigned trucks, no swapping.
- Stay Close to Home: Regional runs within 150–175 miles of our shop. Our routes are ag exempt, so no logbooks.
- Health Coverage: Group health insurance for full-time employees, starting the 1st of the month after 60 days.
- Time to Recharge: Paid time off starting at 3 days after 6 months and growing to 15 days at 5+ years, plus 8 observed company holidays.
- A Family-Oriented Culture: Work for a family business that has been hauling livestock for more than 45 years.
Competitive Compensation That Rewards Your Hard Work
At Knupp Farms, your pay is tied to the loads you run. Drivers earn a percentage of every load, so your weekly pay will vary with the number of loads you haul. We want you to know exactly how you’ll be paid before you start.
Estimated Pay Range: $1,800 – $2,200 per week typical
*Your percentage will be based on your qualifications, safety record, and experience.
Ready to make livestock hauling your career?
Join us in keeping the region’s hog farms moving by hauling safely, handling animals with care, and building a long-term career with a family-run team.
