Supervision Received: Reports to Site Dental Director & Professional Development Dental Assistan
The Limited License Short-Term Residency at Community Health Connections (CHC) offers the opportunity for professional development and additional skills training in a community health center for international/limited license dentists (LLDs). By working as a dental assistant, this 6-month program prepares LLDs to meet the needs of the culturally diverse and clinically complex patients commonly seen in a community health center practice.
Working as full-time dental assistants, LLD Short-Term Residents will be exposed to a wide variety of oral health care services including oral surgery, endodontics, fixed and removable prosthodontics, periodontal therapy, dental emergencies, and pain control techniques. During months 4, 5, and 6, the Short-Term Residents will have limited opportunities to see patients as limited license dentists under the direct supervision of attending dentists.
It is anticipated that each resident will show evidence of clinical development, professional leadership, and increased perceived clinical confidence by the end of this residency. At the end of the 6-month Short-Term Residency program, the candidate may be offered a position at Community Health Connections as either a LLD or a RDH, although this is pending the needs of the organization.
Residents will provide clinical care and are expected to:
• Act as dental assistants for 6 months as primary oral health care providers.
• Attend all weekly check-in meetings and monthly didactic sessions
