About the role
At REGENT, we’re on a mission to revolutionize regional transportation between coastal cities. We're not just building vehicles, we're creating a new category of transportation: the Seaglider. These groundbreaking wing-in-ground-effect craft travel just above the water’s surface, combining the speed of an airplane with the low operating costs of a boat. Capable of 180 miles at 180 mph on today's battery tech (and up to 400 miles with next-gen batteries), Seagliders will unlock fast, affordable, and sustainable coastal transit for passengers and cargo - connecting cities, islands, and communities like never before.
Backed by leading investors and powered by a team of passionate, forward-thinking engineers, builders, and operators, we’re now scaling from a breakthrough prototype to full production - and building the team to make it happen.
Role Overview
Seagliders are all-electric flying vehicles that operate on the water, bringing together complex electrical systems that need to work seamlessly, reliably, and safely. From safety-critical controls and high-voltage power distribution to electric propulsion, energy storage, electromechanical actuation, and harnessing, our Electrical Engineering team is responsible for designing and integrating the systems that make our vehicles possible.
We're looking for a Manager, Electrical Engineering who brings both strong technical depth and a passion for building, coaching, and leading high-performing engineers. This is a role for someone who can guide complex technical decisions, challenge designs, mentor engineers, and bring structure and clarity to a fast-moving development environment. You'll lead and grow a team of engineers, with responsibility for electrical engineering across multiple vehicle programs as we move from development and testing toward certification and production.
You'll work closely with your team to establish technical direction, navigate design tradeoffs, and ensure our electrical systems meet the demanding requirements of safety-critical applications. Just as importantly, you'll invest in the people behind the engineering — coaching engineers through technical challenges, providing thoughtful feedback, helping them develop, and creating opportunities for them to grow into stronger technical contributors and leaders. You'll foster a team environment built on clear ownership, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
Reporting to the Director of Hardware Engineering, you'll partner closely with mechanical, software, systems, certification, test, and manufacturing teams to solve challenges that extend well beyond any single subsystem. You'll also play a key role in guiding our vehicles through major development milestones, including critical design reviews and flight testing. Success in this role means delivering technically sound, well-integrated electrical systems while developing a team of engineers who are growing in their capabilities, taking on greater ownership, and ready to tackle increasingly complex challenges as REGENT grows.
If you’re energized by working at the intersection of cutting-edge innovation, real-world impact, and hands-on engineering, you’ll be in the right place - and we’d be thrilled to have you on the team!
What You'll Do
Lead and Build the Electrical Engineering Team: Set technical direction, establish priorities, and guide engineering execution across avionics, power distribution, electric propulsion and energy storage integration, actuation, harnessing, and board-level hardware. Own hiring, performance management, and team development, creating an environment where engineers have clear ownership, make sound technical decisions, collaborate effectively, and are empowered to do their best work.
Drive Engineering Execution Across Programs: Translate vehicle and program requirements into clear engineering priorities, deliverables, and milestones. Balance competing demands across multiple vehicle programs, remove roadblocks, and keep the team focused on delivering high-quality designs through integration, verification, and testing.
Provide Technical Leadership and Oversight: Guide engineering decisions, challenge assumptions, and help the team navigate complex design tradeoffs. Lead meaningful design reviews, safety assessments, and technical risk discussions that identify issues early, strengthen designs, and maintain momentum without introducing unnecessary process.
Build Scalable Engineering Practices: Establish and continuously improve electrical engineering standards, design documentation, review processes, and verification practices. Partner with the team to develop the technical rigor, consistency, and documentation needed to support certification, manufacturing, and production readiness.
Collaborate Across Engineering and Operations: Serve as a trusted technical and organizational partner to mechanical, embedded software, GNC, systems, certification, test, quality, and manufacturing teams, as well as key suppliers and contract manufacturers. Drive alignment across disciplines, resolve technical dependencies, and ensure electrical systems are designed and integrated as part of the broader vehicle.
Anticipate and Manage Risk: Proactively identify technical, schedule, resource, and supplier risks. Communicate tradeoffs and potential impacts clearly, bring forward recommendations, and work with program leadership and cross-functional partners to resolve challenges before they affect major milestones.
What You'll Bring
Engineering Leadership and People Development: You've demonstrated the ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineers, whether through formal people management or technical leadership roles. You're excited to take ownership of hiring, coaching, performance management, and team development, and know how to bring out the best in others, build on individual strengths, and create opportunities for engineers to grow and take on greater ownership.
Strong Technical Foundation Across Electrical Systems: You bring deep technical expertise in at least two areas of electrical engineering, including avionics and data networks, low- and high-voltage power distribution, electric propulsion and energy storage integration, electromechanical actuation, or board-level hardware design. You also have a working understanding of the other disciplines, with the systems-level perspective and technical judgment to guide design decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and lead engineers across multiple electrical specialties.
Experience Developing Safety-Critical Hardware: You understand how system safety, design assurance, environmental qualification, and regulatory requirements influence electrical hardware development. You're familiar with standards and methodologies such as DO-160, ARP4754, FMEA, or equivalent approaches, and know how to apply them to make informed engineering decisions.
Proven Experience Delivering Hardware Through Production: You've led electrical hardware development from requirements and architecture through detailed design, integration, verification, environmental qualification, and production readiness. You understand what it takes to move complex electrical systems from design into working, qualified hardware, navigate technical challenges, and deliver against demanding program milestones in aerospace, maritime, automotive, or other safety-critical environments.
Strong Cross-Functional Collaboration: You're comfortable working across mechanical, software, systems, test, certification, and manufacturing teams to solve complex engineering challenges. You build credibility through technical judgment, clear communication, and a willingness to listen, challenge assumptions, and work toward the best solution for the overall vehicle.
Experience Working with Suppliers and Manufacturing Partners: You've partnered with suppliers and contract manufacturers to define technical requirements, evaluate designs, establish acceptance criteria, and resolve issues throughout development and production.
Comfortable Building in Ambiguity: You thrive in environments where the technology is evolving, processes are still being established, and there isn't always a clear playbook. You can make thoughtful decisions with incomplete information, adapt as new challenges emerge, and aren't afraid to get close to the hardware and work alongside your team during integration and testing.
Bonus Experience
Experience with Emerging Vehicle Platforms: You've worked on eVTOL, UAV, electric marine vessels, or other novel vehicle technologies, particularly in environments developing new approaches to propulsion, controls, or vehicle integration.
Hands-On Electrical Design Experience: You've personally designed or developed electrical harnesses, PCBs, or custom electronic hardware and bring familiarity with PLM and requirements management tools.
Passion for Aviation or Maritime: You have a pilot's license, boating experience, or a personal interest in aviation, maritime technology, or electric transportation.
