About the role
Description
Morin Repair Services is hiring a Master Machinist for our Tampa shop. Under minimal supervision, this person sets up and runs manual machine tools to make, repair, and restore parts for pumps and other rotating equipment.
Much of the work comes off marine and industrial equipment and involves critical fits and running clearances, so the work has to be right the first time.
You will work directly with the Shop Manager and our mechanics during disassembly, inspection, and reassembly, and you will be expected to work from drawings, shop sketches, worn samples, and measurement data with little direction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform all work in a timely, safe, and responsible manner.
- Machine critical dimensions on pump and rotating-equipment parts, including shafts, sleeves, bushings, wear rings, impellers, bearing fits, seal and gland bores, register fits, couplings, and flanges.
- Read and interpret blueprints and OEM drawings, work from shop sketches, and duplicate worn or sample parts to the correct design dimensions.
- Hold close tolerances for running clearances, press fits, concentricity, runout, perpendicularity, and surface finish.
- Use micrometers, bore gauges, dial bore gauges, dial indicators, and other precision instruments to measure parts and confirm they meet tolerance during the repair process.
- Set up, align, and secure work, fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments safely and correctly, including truing long shafts and indicating parts with existing wear or damage.
- Machine 416 and 316 stainless steel, 660 bronze, cast iron, carbon steel, plastics, and composites.
- Select and use the right cutting tools, carbide inserts, fixtures, and tooling for the material and the job.
- Plan the machining sequence and stock allowance for repairs such as sleeving, bushing, metal build-up and re-machining, and line boring.
- Make a clean, dimensioned shop sketch of parts as they are made, and record final dimensions for the job file.
- Work with the Shop Manager and mechanics during Disassembly, Clean and Inspection (DCI) and assembly, and recommend repair methods.
- Support after-hours, weekend, and emergency repairs when the job requires it.
- Evaluate procedures and recommend changes that improve setup time, accuracy, and throughput.
- Keep the machines and work area clean and maintained, and follow good machine shop practice, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
