Background

Saab is growing rapidly, and this growth has led to larger projects, higher resource demands, and frequent reorganizations. It has become increasingly difficult to keep track of what is happening across the organization, which can result in duplicated efforts and internal competition.

Saab has become a leader in the defense market partly due to its broad product portfolio, which the organization aims to maintain.

A previous master’s thesis identified that confidentiality restrictions limit both internal and external collaboration and knowledge sharing. The findings suggest that information is sometimes more restricted than necessary, potentially influenced by internal competition and organizational silos.

In external collaborations, confidentiality restrictions can limit the context shared with partners, thereby reducing the practical relevance of their outcomes. However, the underlying factors contributing to these practices and their implications for knowledge sharing require further investigation.

Description of the Thesis Project

The purpose of this thesis is to identify and examine confidentiality-related barriers to knowledge sharing at Saab Surveillance. Building on findings from previous research, the study aims to understand how these barriers arise and what factors influence them.

Furthermore, the study seeks to explore how these barriers might be addressed to facilitate knowledge sharing across organizational boundaries without compromising security.

The master thesis work will be performed at Saab X Innovation Lab. At X Innovation Lab we test the boundaries of modern technology to explore ways this technology can be used to enhance Saab’s products and our ways of working.
