About the role
We're Hiring: Product Engineer
Location: Torrance, CA
Company: Pelican Products, Inc.
Who We Are
At Pelican, we engineer products that stand up to the world’s toughest conditions—because the people who rely on us do too. For nearly 50 years, we’ve been a trusted partner for military personnel, first responders, outdoor adventurers, and innovators who push the limits.
With a global presence that includes 11 offices, 4 manufacturing facilities, and 4 custom case centers, we create high-performance protective solutions that ensure our customers can focus on what matters most. Whether it’s transporting critical medical supplies, securing mission-essential equipment, or keeping expedition gear safe, Pelican products are Built to Protect to Equip for the Mission.
At Pelican, your work has a real-world impact. You’ll be part of a team driven by innovation, craftsmanship, and the shared belief that when the mission is critical, failure isn’t an option. If you’re ready to build something that makes a difference, be part of a team that protects what matters most.
What You'll Do:
As a Project Engineer I, you’ll help bring new Pelican products from concept to production. You’ll manage product development and improvement projects, create and evaluate designs, coordinate cross-functional teams, support testing, and work with vendors to successfully launch products on time and within budget. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys product design, problem-solving, project management, and turning ideas into manufacturable products.
Design Pelican cases and other products from initial concept through manufacturing and production implementation.
Manage multiple new product development, product line extension, and product improvement projects simultaneously.
Coordinate cross-functional project activities to help ensure new products are released to production on time and within budget.
Develop product concepts and engineering solutions using mechanical design principles and 3D CAD modeling.
Work with cross-functional partners throughout product development, production implementation, and post-launch support.
Develop appropriate test plans and test methods to evaluate product design, performance, and quality.
Analyze testing results and partner with appropriate teams to resolve quality and engineering issues.
Identify and recommend product or process improvements that can reduce cost, improve quality, and maximize production efficiency.
Support the transition of new designs from engineering into manufacturing.
Serve as an engineering liaison with vendors and customers on technical and project-related matters.
Travel to suppliers and vendors as needed to discuss designs, resolve technical issues, and support project requirements.
Support Pelican’s commitment to Quality, Safety, and continuous improvement throughout the product development process.
What We’re Looking For:
3–5 years of product design and project management experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
Strong theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical engineering and product design concepts.
Experience supporting products from initial design and development through manufacturing.
Basic proficiency with 3D solid modeling CAD software.
Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative and practical engineering solutions.
Ability to work effectively within cross-functional product development teams.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated, results-oriented approach with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability and willingness to travel to vendors to address technical and project-related requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
Experience using SolidWorks.
Experience designing consumer products, particularly low-cost, high-volume, high-quality products.
Experience with injection-molded plastics, including plastic part design, materials, tooling, and assembly methods.
Experience contributing to cross-functional product development teams responsible for delivering projects on time and within budget.
