About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Manager - LED Lighting based in Brazil.
In this hands-on role, you will take end-to-end ownership of a diverse LED lighting product portfolio spanning architectural lighting, signage, entertainment, and pixel lighting solutions. You will shape the product roadmap, define pricing strategies, and lead hardware development from initial requirements through manufacturing and commercial launch. Working directly with executive leadership in a lean, AI-enabled environment, you will collaborate with contract manufacturers, distributors, sales representatives, architects, and lighting designers to deliver products that meet market needs. You will combine technical expertise, commercial judgment, and operational discipline to optimize product configurations, margins, documentation, and supply chain decisions. Your work will directly influence product innovation, revenue growth, profitability, and the customer experience. This is an opportunity for a self-driven product professional who enjoys building things from the ground up, making data-informed decisions, and seeing tangible results from their work.
Accountabilities
- Product portfolio management: Own the complete LED lighting catalog, including linear pixel, architectural linear, signage, and entertainment product families. Evaluate product performance and market demand to determine which products to maintain, consolidate, retire, or source from alternative suppliers.
- Product strategy and roadmap: Develop and maintain a 12–24-month product roadmap aligned with customer and channel demand, specification opportunities, profitability targets, and supply chain risks.
- Pricing and profitability: Establish and maintain list prices and channel pricing for distributors and sales representatives. Build pricing models, analyze product costs and margins, and keep price books accurate and up to date.
- New product development: Translate market needs into detailed product requirements covering optical, electrical, mechanical, control, and certification specifications. Lead product development from concept through prototyping, sampling, validation, and commercial launch in collaboration with internal technical specialists and contract manufacturers.
- Certification and compliance: Coordinate product certification and compliance requirements, including UL, cUL, ETL, DesignLights Consortium (DLC) where applicable, and relevant ingress protection (IP) ratings.
- Cost and supply chain management: Track manufacturing costs, landed costs, lead times, tariffs, and country-of-origin exposure. Assess sourcing alternatives and supply risks to support informed product and profitability decisions.
- Product configuration and data governance: Own configuration rules in configure-price-quote (CPQ) systems to enable accurate quoting of configure-to-order products. Maintain reliable item, bill of materials (BOM), and product data within the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
- Technical documentation and content: Develop and maintain product specification sheets, installation guides, IES photometric files, and website product content, ensuring technical accuracy and usability for sales teams, distributors, architects, and lighting designers.
- Go-to-market execution: Coordinate product launches, including channel pricing, sales enablement materials, and training for distributors and sales representatives. Serve as a product resource for lighting designers and architects working on specification-driven projects.
- Market feedback and continuous improvement: Translate field feedback, warranty data, customer concerns, and lost sales opportunities into actionable product and roadmap improvements.
- Delivery milestones and accountability: Complete a catalog audit within the first 30 days, deliver an approved roadmap and refreshed price book within 90 days, advance the first new or revised product family through sampling within six months, and achieve at least two product launches within the first 12 months.
- AI-enabled productivity: Use AI tools in daily workflows to accelerate research, documentation, analysis, and operational tasks while maintaining accuracy and sound product decisions.
- Product management experience: At least three years of experience in product management or product line management for physical products, ideally in LED lighting, signage, entertainment lighting, or a related hardware industry.
- LED technical knowledge: Strong understanding of LED fundamentals, including drivers, correlated color temperature (CCT), color rendering index (CRI), LED binning, thermal management, voltage drop, and IP/IK protection ratings.
- Lighting controls: Familiarity with lighting control technologies and protocols, including DMX/RDM, SPI pixel protocols, 0–10V, and DALI.
- Hardware development and manufacturing: Proven experience taking physical hardware products from requirements through launch, including collaboration with overseas contract manufacturers and management of development timelines, samples, and production readiness.
- Pricing and financial analysis: Practical experience building pricing models, calculating cost roll-ups, evaluating landed costs, and analyzing margins using Microsoft Excel.
- ERP and CPQ systems: Experience managing product data, item records, and bills of materials in ERP systems, as well as configuring products in CPQ or product configurator tools. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Elfsquad experience are advantageous.
- Technical communication: Excellent technical writing skills in professional English and strong spoken English for calls with North American sales representatives, distributors, architects, and lighting designers.
- AI proficiency: Regular use of AI tools to improve productivity, accelerate workflows, and support research, analysis, and documentation.
- Location and availability: Based in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, or Argentina, with availability to work at least from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. US Eastern Time.
- Contractor eligibility: Ability to work as an independent contractor and invoice for services.
- Travel flexibility: Willingness to travel occasionally to Moncton, New Brunswick; Las Vegas, Nevada; industry trade shows; and manufacturing facilities.
- Ownership and adaptability: Comfortable working independently in a lean environment, making decisions with incomplete information, managing commercial targets, and being accountable for measurable results.
- Hands-on mindset: Willingness to execute the work directly, from writing specifications and building pricing models to coordinating samples and maintaining product documentation, rather than focusing primarily on managing a team of product managers.
- Competitive compensation: US$3,500–US$5,000 per month, paid monthly in US dollars.
- Fully remote work: Work remotely from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, or Argentina.
- Flexible contractor arrangement: Independent contractor engagement offering a remote working environment and direct responsibility for your deliverables.
- Direct executive collaboration: Report directly to the CEO, with visibility into strategic decisions and a clear opportunity to influence the business.
- End-to-end product ownership: Take responsibility for the entire product line, from portfolio strategy and technical specifications to pricing, manufacturing, and commercial launches.
- Meaningful business impact: Influence product innovation, revenue, margins, sourcing decisions, and customer satisfaction.
- International exposure: Collaborate with North American sales channels, lighting professionals, overseas manufacturers, and industry partners.
- AI-enabled work environment: Use modern AI tools to streamline workflows and improve productivity in a lean, execution-focused organization.
