About the role
Experience in electrical engineering or electrical construction is essential. Applicants must have the right to work in the EU and hold a valid passport for travel to EU project locations.
Project Manager
Annual salary: €100,000–€150,000 / £85,000–£130,000
Package: Depending on experience, project scope and construction delivery requirements, plus a performance-linked bonus
Location: European project sites — recruiting across Ireland and NI
Upcoming locations: Portugal, Sweden and the Netherlands
Job type: Full-time
The role
Take overall responsibility for an assigned electrical engineering project from mobilisation through delivery and final handover. Lead the site team and own programme, safety, quality, project costs and sales, budgets, invoicing approvals and commercial outcomes with the commercial team.
You own the job. Know the costs, the sales and the programme. Capture every change, keep the evidence and tackle problems while there is time to fix them.
Key responsibilities
- Own mobilisation, scope reviews, the work breakdown structure (WBS), programme baselines, resource plans and commercial handover.
- Lead Construction Managers, Package Managers and delivery teams. Set clear responsibilities and address underperformance with named actions and deadlines.
- Own project costs and sales, budgets and forecasts. Review weekly SE tracking against actual and budgeted hours, measured output, materials, plant and commercial performance.
- Understand complex electrical scopes and accurately assess, verify and report progress against completion requirements.
- Capture out-of-scope work, remeasurable items, variations and dayworks promptly, with evidence supporting claims, notices and payment applications.
- Maintain rolling 12-week look-aheads covering access, programme interfaces, labour, materials and equipment.
- Lead recovery plans whenever delivery drifts.
- Ensure IMS, HSEQ, permit, induction, incident-reporting and certification controls are consistently applied.
- Drive inspections, snag closure, test packs, as-built records and phased handover readiness.
- Recruit, vet, develop and deploy delivery teams, ensuring rotation cover and operational continuity.
- Review weekly progress and cost value reconciliations with delivery and commercial teams. Report forecasts, claims, risks and corrective actions to the Projects Director.
- Verify and approve invoices within delegated authority, supported by orders, deliveries, completed work and agreed rates.
- Close outstanding commercial and delivery actions through final account and handover.
What we are looking for
- Typically 5–10 years of relevant electrical construction delivery experience, including responsibility for substantial projects; greater experience welcome.
- Evidence of leading Construction Managers and Package Managers, protecting commercial outcomes and managing client relationships.
- Relevant trade, engineering or construction management background.
- SMSTS or equivalent senior site-management qualification.
- Comprehensive understanding of SE reporting, including the relationship between actual and budgeted hours, measured output, productivity and project performance.
- Strong knowledge of change control, planning, HSEQ governance and handover.
- Confident use of Excel, SharePoint, Teams and project systems, with the ability to use Oculo, Bluebeam and client portals.
- Previous data centre experience desirable, but not essential where you can demonstrate substantial electrical project leadership.
Bring the evidence
Experience matters. Evidence earns trust. Tell us what you personally owned and the results you delivered.
- Project values, electrical scope, locations, team sizes and the costs and sales you personally controlled.
- Examples of recovering programme, protecting margin or improving team performance.
- References able to confirm your decisions, leadership and delivery outcomes.
Anonymised examples and figures are welcome. We may follow up with references; confidential employer, client or employee records are not required.
How success is measured
Programme, margin, safety and quality outcomes; accurate costs and sales, reliable SE reporting, verified progress, substantiated entitlement, approved invoices and complete handover.
Responsibility and judgement
Direct the project team, manage recovery and approve expenditure within delegated limits. Coordinate contractual notices and claims evidence, and escalate major risks promptly to the Projects Director.
Why join Centum
Take your electrical experience into major European data centre projects with a growing engineering business. Work with experienced colleagues, take ownership and help improve how projects are delivered.
European rotations are available according to assignment. Rotation, travel, accommodation and any assignment-specific pay or tax arrangements will be explained during recruitment. These depend on the project, employment arrangements and individual circumstances.
Be clear about the location
You can’t build a data centre from your spare room.
If your assigned project is in Portugal, that is where you will work. Expect to live near the project during your working rotation and lead delivery in person.
This is not a home-based role with occasional flights to site. Project location and rotation arrangements will be discussed during recruitment.
