About the role
Develop and support a critical care nursing team at a private hospital in the Cape Winelands.
A private hospital in the Cape Winelands is looking for an experienced ICU Clinical Facilitator to lead the clinical
development of its critical care nursing team. This role combines hands-on critical care expertise with nursing
education, and suits a nurse who is passionate about growing others and raising standards of patient care in the
intensive care unit.
You will work closely with the ICU manager and the hospital's wider nursing and education teams to orient new
staff, build clinical competence, support students and learners, and keep the unit's practice safe, current and
evidence-based. The Winelands offers a close community, a supportive working environment and a lifestyle that is
hard to match.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver orientation and onboarding for new ICU nurses, including competency assessments and
- structured support through their first months.
- Provide bedside teaching, coaching and mentoring to nursing staff, helping them build confidence and skills in
- critical care.
- Identify training needs and develop and run in-service training, skills sessions and simulation-based learning for
- the ICU team.
- Support nursing students and post-basic learners during their clinical placements in the unit, including
- supervision and assessment.
- Assess and record staff competencies against defined standards, and keep training and CPD records up to
- date.
- Support clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention and quality improvement initiatives in the unit.
- Work with the ICU manager, intensivists, doctors and allied health professionals to align education with clinical
- needs.
- Provide clinical support to the unit when required, leading by example in critical care practice.
- Practise in line with SANC regulations and the hospital's policies and ethical standards.
Requirements
- Substantial recent experience in an ICU or critical care environment, with strong clinical skills in the care of critically ill patients.
- Proven experience in nursing education, clinical facilitation, mentoring or training of nursing staff or students. Confidence and credibility in coaching colleagues at all levels, with a supportive and encouraging approach.
- Strong communication, planning and organisational skills, including the ability to design and deliver training. A genuine commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification, or willingness to obtain it.
- Good computer skills for training records, presentations and reporting.
- Commitment to a long-term future in the Cape Winelands, and willingness to relocate if needed.
- Fluency in English; Afrikaans is an advantage in the local community.
- Consent to standard credential, reference and background checks, handled in line with POPIA.
Benefits
- A role that combines critical care practice with nursing education, with real influence over the standard of care in the ICU.
- Work as part of a supportive nursing and medical team in a private hospital setting.
- Opportunities to develop your own skills and career in clinical education and leadership.
- Details of remuneration and employment terms will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
- Lifestyle: the Winelands offers a quality of life that is hard to match, including space, beauty, good schools and a strong community.
