About the role
The Site Safety Coordinator (2nd Shift), located in Winder, GA, is a visible, approachable floor level partner who helps employees and Operations recognize exposures, apply approved safety requirements, and verify that safeguards work in practice. Through meaningful employee engagement, risk focused observations, training support, timely reporting and disciplined follow through, the Coordinator helps build a workplace where hazards are raised early, learning is shared across shifts, and safe work is integrated into daily operations. The position is a developmental role designed to build sound technical judgment, influence and future EHS leadership capability.
Responsibilities
• Risk recognition and prevention: Conduct planned and responsive floor observations, inspections and approved assessments across assigned operations; identify changing work, repeat exposures, serious injury and fatality (SIF) potential, and gaps in critical controls. Engage employees and supervisors to understand work as performed, recommend feasible improvements, and verify implementation within assigned authority.
• Operations partnership and employee engagement: Build constructive relationships with employees, shift supervisors and plant leaders. Support risk driven safety huddles, safety committees and employee hazard reporting; listen to concerns, encourage participation without retaliation, and provide practical coaching. Reinforce that Operations leads safe execution while EHS advises, facilitates and verifies.
• Incident learning and follow through: Respond promptly to injuries, near misses and high potential events; support immediate care and scene control, evidence preservation, notifications and accurate entries. Assist leadership with fact finding, root cause evaluation and learning reviews using approved processes. Track assigned corrective actions, verify evidence, recognize recurrence, and escalate unresolved or significant risks.
• Training and competency support: Support approved onboarding, orientation, job specific instruction, refresher training and shift level safety communication. Deliver training only when qualified and authorized; coordinate subject matter trainers when specialized competency is required. Maintain accurate attendance, qualification and training records, and raise observed competency gaps.
• Program and data stewardship: Maintain assigned records in approved systems (including HSI or its successor): inspections, hazards, permits, committee materials, safety procedures, training, incident information and corrective actions. Support accurate regulatory logs, required postings and reporting through designated accountable personnel; assist with audit readiness and review of leading and lagging indicators.
• Workplace programs and cross-functional support: Help execute approved programs for machine safety/guarding, lockout/tagout or hazardous energy control, mobile equipment and pedestrian separation, ergonomics, PPE, chemical safety, emergency preparedness, industrial hygiene and other site risks. Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, HR, Training and Operations; elevate matters requiring technical review, authorization or specialist support.
• Claims and return to work coordination: Provide timely incident facts and site information to authorized HR, claims and Safety partners; support safe work accommodation and return to work coordination as directed. Do not independently make medical, claim liability or employment determinations. This RTW modified duties is supported by the supervisor, HR manager and claims manager.
• Continuous improvement and development: Participate in coaching, technical training and cross site learning; develop risk assessment, communication, data interpretation, facilitation and leadership skills. Identify practical improvements and share lessons across shifts and facilities.
Shift Coverage and Handoffs
• Consistent expectations: Apply the same core safety standards and intervention authority on first, second and third shifts, adapting engagement and delivery methods to the shift’s operations, staffing, hazards and language needs.
• On-shift presence: Maintain meaningful floor presence during assigned hours, including start-up, changeovers, non-routine tasks, maintenance, contractors and other higher risk activities occurring on that shift.
• Continuity: Document open hazards, temporary controls, events and follow-up commitments; communicate critical items through documented shift handoffs and promptly contact designated on call leaders where required. Escalate high risk conditions immediately rather than deferring them to first shift.
• Coverage arrangements: Use approved escalation and emergency response arrangements when Safety management is not physically on site; shift assignment does not create independent management approval authority.
Authority and Accountability Boundaries
• Intervention: May stop or pause work presenting an apparent immediate hazard, initiate established protective steps, and promptly notify accountable Operations and Safety leaders, consistent with applicable law and Price policy.
