About the Role

The SAP Applications Analyst III – SD/MM is responsible for supporting, enhancing, and optimizing SAP solutions across the Sales and Distribution and Materials Management functional areas. This role partners with business and technology teams to understand requirements, analyze non-routine issues, and translate business needs into practical system-supported solutions.

The analyst applies functional knowledge of SAP SD and MM processes to support system configuration, integrations, testing, production support, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role works independently on routine assignments and defined projects, with work reviewed at critical points. The position collaborates with more senior analysts, solution architects, developers, external partners, and business stakeholders when addressing complex or cross-functional solutions.

What You'll Do

Business Process Analysis and Solution Support

  • Develop a strong understanding of business processes supported by SAP SD and MM, including sales order processing, pricing, delivery, billing, procurement, purchasing, inventory management, and material movements.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather, document, and validate functional requirements.
  • Analyze existing business processes and SAP functionality to identify system gaps, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, process flows, user stories, and system-supported solutions.
  • Apply evaluation and judgment to recommend an appropriate course of action for non-routine issues.
  • Support fit-to-standard discussions and help ensure solutions align with established enterprise and SAP standards.

SAP Configuration and Functional Support

  • Configure and support SAP SD and MM functionality within established solution designs and architecture standards.
  • Support SD functionality such as sales documents, pricing, availability, delivery processing, billing, output determination, and related master data.
  • Support MM functionality such as purchase requisitions, purchase orders, goods movements, inventory processes, material master data, and invoice-related integration points.
  • Evaluate configuration requests and recommend solutions that balance business needs, system capabilities, and supportability.
  • Maintain functional documentation, configuration records, process flows, and support procedures.
  • Support SAP Fiori applications and user experiences associated with SD and MM processes.

Project Delivery and Integration

  • Participate in SAP implementations, enhancements, upgrades, and roadmap initiatives from requirements through deployment and stabilization.
  • Independently manage assigned workstreams or deliverables within small to medium-sized projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, solution architects, developers, integration teams, consultants, and business users.
  • Support integrations between SAP and internal or third-party systems.
  • Analyze integration requirements and assist with defining functional mappings, expected system behavior, and exception-handling requirements.
  • Support cross-functional process integration among SD, MM, FI/CO, warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, and related enterprise applications.
  • Escalate architectural decisions, significant design risks, and issues outside the role’s scope to senior team members.

Testing, Deployment, and Change Management

  • Develop functional test scenarios, scripts, and expected results based on business requirements.
  • Coordinate and execute system integration testing, regression testing, and user acceptance testing.
  • Document, prioritize, and track defects through resolution.
  • Validate system functionality and end-to-end business processes before deployment.
  • Support release readiness, cutover, post-deployment validation, and stabilization activities.
  • Assist with user documentation, training, communications, and adoption of new functionality.

Operational Support and Problem Solving

  • Investigate and resolve production issues affecting SAP SD and MM processes.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and collaborate with technical teams and external support partners to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Support high-priority or escalated application issues within established incident and problem-management processes.
  • Work with application management service providers to prioritize tickets, validate proposed solutions, and confirm issue resolution.
  • Monitor recurring issues and recommend process, configuration, or documentation improvements.
  • Balance operational support responsibilities with project and enhancement commitments.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Build effective working relationships with stakeholders across Sales, Customer Service, Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Manufacturing, and Technology.
  • Communicate system capabilities, limitations, risks, and recommended solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Facilitate requirements discussions, process reviews, testing sessions, and solution walkthroughs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service, system efficiency, data quality, and the user experience.
  • Stay current on SAP S/4HANA SD/MM functionality and relevant SAP innovations.
  • Share functional knowledge and provide process or system guidance to business users and less-experienced team members.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Greater than 5 years of relevant experience in an SAP functional analyst, business systems analyst, or comparable role.
  • Experience supporting SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA in a project and production-support environment.
  • Functional configuration and business process knowledge in SAP Sales and Distribution and/or Materials Management.
  • Working knowledge of sales order processing, pricing, delivery, billing, procurement, purchasing, inventory management, or material movements.
  • Understanding of integration points among SAP SD, MM, FI/CO, warehouse, logistics, and related modules.
  • Experience gathering requirements and translating them into functional specifications and system-supported solutions.
  • Experience with system testing, defect resolution, change control, and software delivery lifecycle practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess non-routine situations, conduct root-cause analysis, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to work independently while seeking guidance for complex architectural or cross-functional decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting both SAP SD and SAP MM.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations, migrations, or global rollouts.
  • Experience with SAP Fiori applications.
  • Knowledge of output management, EDI, APIs, or integrations with third-party sales, procurement, logistics, tax, payment, or warehouse systems.
  • Experience working with internal teams, external consultants, and onshore/offshore application support partners.
  • Experience in the consumer products, retail, distribution, manufacturing, or supply chain industries.
  • SAP certification in Sales, Sourcing and Procurement, or a related functional area.
