About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer – Python & Databricks based in Brazil.
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and operate reliable backend services and production-grade REST APIs. In this remote role, you will work primarily with Python, FastAPI, and Microsoft Azure, contributing to scalable systems and data-driven products. You will help build and maintain a communications dispatch service that connects messaging queues, external APIs, databases, and data platforms such as Databricks. Working closely with development, data, and IT/DevOps teams, you will contribute to architecture, integrations, and deployment processes. The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical solutions in a collaborative, learning-oriented environment focused on clean code, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Accountabilities
-
Design, develop, and evolve backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI, following sound practices for architecture, security, and maintainability.
-
Build and operate a communications dispatch service integrating messaging queues and external APIs, implementing idempotency, retries, rate limiting, and robust error handling.
-
Integrate and orchestrate Azure services, relational databases, third-party APIs, and data processes running on platforms such as Databricks.
-
Design and maintain Azure SQL persistence solutions, including data modeling, migrations, data integrity, and query optimization.
-
Improve production reliability and observability through monitoring, tracing, automated testing, and failure recovery mechanisms.
-
Collaborate with development, data, and IT/DevOps teams on technical decisions, integrations, CI/CD pipelines, and deployments across environments.
-
Maintain clear and useful technical documentation.
-
At least 4 years of backend development experience, including building, integrating, and operating production services.
-
Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing REST APIs with FastAPI or equivalent frameworks.
-
Ability to design modular, maintainable software using principles such as SOLID, separation of concerns, and automated testing best practices.
-
Experience integrating APIs and distributed systems, including authentication, timeouts, error handling, retries, and resiliency patterns.
-
Experience with asynchronous processing and messaging systems, including queues, dead-letter handling, and idempotency; Azure Service Bus or equivalent technologies are relevant.
-
Strong SQL and relational database skills, including data modeling, querying, migrations, and ORM usage. SQL Server or Azure SQL experience is preferred.
-
Experience with Docker and deploying containerized services.
-
Hands-on experience with cloud services, preferably Microsoft Azure, as well as monitoring, Git version control, and CI/CD processes.
-
Strong ownership, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
-
Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor, or with Spec-Driven Development practices, alongside the ability to validate generated code for quality, security, and maintainability.
-
Experience integrating and orchestrating backend data processes, particularly with Azure Databricks or similar platforms.
-
Familiarity with cloud-based container infrastructure, including Kubernetes/AKS or Azure Container Registry.
-
Knowledge of marketing technology, customer engagement, or digital experimentation platforms, including push, email, in-app messaging, or A/B testing integrations.
-
Remote-first culture, with the flexibility to work from anywhere.
-
Full coverage of certifications in AWS, dbt, Google Cloud, Azure, and Databricks.
-
Birthday day off and an additional vacation week.
-
Referral bonuses for successful candidate recommendations.
-
Monthly credits through the Maslow benefits marketplace.
-
Annual team trip.
