About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer – Mechanical based in the United States.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to contribute to complex, multidisciplinary building projects in a fully remote environment. The role focuses on delivering high-quality engineering designs, coordinating technical solutions, and ensuring projects meet client expectations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with project managers, clients, consultants, and technical teams to drive projects from initial design through construction and completion. The position offers significant autonomy, direct client interaction, and opportunities to influence technical decisions. You will also contribute to continuous improvement, mentor developing engineers, and help strengthen engineering standards and workflows. Occasional travel is required, providing opportunities to engage directly with project teams and clients.
Accountabilities:
-
Lead the technical execution of engineering projects, preparing accurate calculations, design documentation, and construction deliverables that meet quality and regulatory standards.
-
Develop and coordinate electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, grounding, and related infrastructure.
-
Perform technical calculations such as electrical load assessments, service and feeder sizing, voltage-drop analysis, and short-circuit and coordination studies where applicable.
-
Prepare one-line diagrams, panel schedules, control diagrams, technical specifications, and project-specific engineering details.
-
Coordinate fire alarm, emergency power, communications, and low-voltage requirements with multidisciplinary teams and specialist consultants.
-
Organize project activities by defining deliverables, dependencies, estimated hours, priorities, and execution plans in collaboration with project managers.
-
Monitor project progress, communicate potential roadblocks, and proactively address scope changes, scheduling risks, and coordination challenges.
-
Manage construction administration activities, including maintaining project logs, reviewing technical submittals and shop drawings, drafting responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), and supporting project closeout.
-
Conduct site visits, document field observations, evaluate proposed substitutions, and help resolve construction and coordination issues.
-
Maintain direct communication with clients and consultants, providing technical recommendations and practical solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
-
Support continuous improvement by contributing to engineering standards, specifications, calculation tools, and best practices.
-
Mentor engineers and modeling staff while pursuing professional development and expanding technical expertise across project types and delivery methods.
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. A Mechanical Engineering degree is also listed among the accepted qualifications.
-
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
-
At least 8 years of progressive experience in electrical building-systems design, including independent project execution and construction administration.
-
Strong technical knowledge of electrical system design, power distribution, lighting, grounding, electrical calculations, and construction documentation.
-
Demonstrated ability to develop coordinated engineering deliverables and ensure compliance with applicable electrical, energy, fire and life-safety, and accessibility codes and standards.
-
Experience coordinating with clients, project managers, architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, utilities, and specialist consultants.
-
Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
