About the role
If you're someone who loves the technical side of aquaculture and takes pride in producing the best possible biological outcomes, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
We're looking for a Senior Hatchery Technician - Incubation to lead our incubation operations at Rookwood Hatchery. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll oversee egg incubation and hatching, lead a small team and play a critical part in producing high-quality fry that support our freshwater production program.
This is a role for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, improving processes and leading from the front.
What you'll be doing
No two days are exactly the same, but you'll spend your time:
Leading the day-to-day operation of our incubation systems
Coordinating the receipt, incubation and hatching of egg batches throughout the season
Monitoring water quality, hatch rates, fry quality and system performance
Maintaining exceptional fish welfare, biosecurity and housekeeping standards
Coaching and supporting a small team to deliver strong production outcomes
Troubleshooting equipment and working closely with maintenance teams to keep systems running smoothly
Collecting and reporting biological and production data
Identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and performance across the hatchery
What you'll bring
You'll be a practical leader who enjoys working in a production environment and isn't afraid to roll up your sleeves when needed.
We're looking for someone with:
Experience working in aquaculture, hatcheries, agriculture, food production or a similar environment
Previous leadership or supervisory experience
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills
Good computer and record-keeping skills
A focus on safety, biosecurity and animal welfare
A current driver's licence
Experience with salmonid incubation, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), fish health or water quality management will be highly regarded but isn't essential.
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a critical stage of our production process and make a genuine impact on hatchery performance and fish quality.
You'll be joining a supportive team where you'll have access to technical expertise, ongoing training and development opportunities, and the chance to contribute to a growing and innovative aquaculture business.
If you're passionate about aquaculture, enjoy developing people and want to play a key role in producing the next generation of stock, we'd love to hear from you.
