Job Description
Help people get the right support, sooner.
For people living with a terminal illness, receiving the right care at the right time can make an enormous difference to their experience.
We are looking for a compassionate and self-motivated Senior Healthcare Assistant to join a new Marie Curie service working across South Liverpool.
Working within GP practices, community hubs and other locations across the PCN, you will be part of a new team focused on helping people access palliative and end-of-life care earlier, connecting them with the services and care that are right for them.
This is not a traditional Healthcare Assistant role. There will be a strong focus on outreach, building relationships, supporting referrals and helping people and families navigate the care available to them.
You will work closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists, primary care colleagues and other health and community services across South Liverpool. You will follow up on identified needs, signpost people to appropriate services and help create a more joined-up experience for people and those important to them.
You will also have opportunities to provide direct care, contribute to holistic assessment and care planning, and recognise and respond to changes in people’s needs. Within the scope of your role, you will contribute to symptom management, advance care planning and compassionate conversations around dying, death and bereavement.
You will be managed by a Marie Curie Clinical Nurse Manager and work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and professionals across the PCN.
As you will work across different community locations, we are looking for someone who is comfortable working autonomously, planning and prioritising their workload and taking initiative, while knowing when to seek support or escalate concerns.
Above all, you will understand that palliative care is about the whole person. You will be comfortable listening, building trust and having sensitive conversations with people and those important to them at an incredibly important time in their lives.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday within PCN service hours
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £25,760 - £27,476 per annum, aligned to NHS Agenda for Change Band 3
Location: South Liverpool PCN, working across GP practices, community hubs and other community locations
Interviews: Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 November 2026, in person at Liverpool Hospice
Qualifications
- Has knowledge and understanding of palliative and end-of-life care.
- Has experience providing care to people with palliative and/or end-of-life care needs, including caring for people who are dying.
- Is comfortable having compassionate and sensitive conversations with people and those important to them about serious illness, palliative care, dying and end-of-life wishes.
- Can build trusting relationships with patients, families and health and care professionals.
- Has experience providing high-quality, person-centred care and support.
- Can recognise changes in a person’s condition and escalate concerns appropriately.

Company Description
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.
The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, almost one in three people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.
We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:
- Growing and transforming our direct care and support
- Delivering more practical information and support
- Leading in shaping the end-of-life experience
