We currently have an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development
in our Mason, Ohio location.
Summary:
We are looking for an engineer who thrives in an environment of high autonomy and end-to-end project ownership. You will be at the center of the action, driving the entire product lifecycle—from initial ideation, sketching, and rapid physical prototyping to hands-on testing, validation, and seamless integration with manufacturing. This is your chance to lead projects, make critical design decisions, and shape our next generation of products.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Autonomy & Project Leadership
- Take full end-to-end ownership of major product lines, leading projects through our Phase Gate process from initial napkin sketch to final market release.
- Collaborate with and lead multidisciplinary teams, acting as the engineering authority who keeps projects on track and aligned with technical goals.
- Go beyond the blueprints to build firsthand expertise on customer challenges and market opportunities, partnering with Strategic Marketing to translate insights into robust, functional designs.
- Present and sell your concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels, from shop floor associates to the executive leadership team.
- Spearhead Hands-On Prototyping, Ideation & Validation
- Bring your ideas off the screen and into the real world. Actively participate in the rapid prototyping process, working side-by-side with technicians to build and iterate physical assemblies.
- Don’t just rely on software models. Own the testing process by designing custom test setups and validation protocols to prove out your designs under real-world stress, ensuring compliance with structural and life safety codes (ASCE, IBC, UL, etc.).
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure your prototype designs are optimized for scalable, production-ready fabrication.
- Master Engineering Design
- Utilize Autodesk Inventor to create detailed part and assembly models, building high-quality parametric standards.
- Develop robust engineering standards and calculations for infinitely variable designs and implement them directly into our ERP system.
- Manage the final deployment of new products via the engineering change order (ECO) process and write the clear, practical installation manuals our field installers rely on.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 to 10 years of professional experience in product design or product development.
- Brings practical experience through hands-on hobbies or personal projects, such as classic car restoration, engine rebuilding, woodworking, custom machining, welding, or building complex projects in a home workshop.
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools to fabricate, modify, troubleshoot, and refine mechanical components.
- Works effectively in a team environment, collaboration closely with technicians to develop and test prototype equipment, design practical tests, and validate mechanical concepts through hands-on testing to verify concepts and drive continuous improvement.
- Fluent in 3D CAD modeling (Autodesk Inventor preferred) and parametric design, with a strong understanding of how fabrication methods impact design viability.
- A proven ability to work as a highly collaborative teammate and lead cross-functional groups, with a gift for explaining complex, 3D mechanical assemblies clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues alike.
