About the role
Senior Software Engineer
Lead Technical Delivery. Raise Engineering Standards. Build at Scale.
£56500 plus bonus and benefits
Ready to lead complex engineering delivery and help shape the future of one of the UK’s largest parcel delivery networks?
At Evri, technology sits at the heart of everything we do. Our engineers design, build and support the platforms, applications and services that power millions of parcel journeys every year.
As we continue to invest in modern engineering practices, cloud-native technologies and platform transformation, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer who can own complex components, lead technical delivery and help others grow.
This is an opportunity to make a visible impact in a collaborative engineering team. You’ll deliver business-critical solutions, influence technical direction and raise standards across quality, automation, reliability and performance.
Morley / remote role.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll take ownership of complex backend services and platform capabilities from design through deployment and ongoing support. You'll play a key role in designing, building and maintaining scalable cloud-native solutions while helping to drive engineering standards across the team.
Design, build and maintain scalable backend services, APIs and event-driven systems using TypeScript and Node.js.
Develop and support cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging services such as Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, EventBridge and API Gateway.
Build and maintain microservices and distributed systems that are secure, resilient and scalable.
Write high-quality, maintainable production code and promote simplicity, clarity and comprehensive documentation.
Champion advanced design patterns, clean architecture, automated testing and robust coding standards.
Own quality and reliability within your area, including security, regulatory and performance considerations.
Take ownership of services throughout their lifecycle, including deployment, support and continuous improvement.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, driving improvements to system reliability, performance and resilience.
Collaborate with Product, Delivery, Architecture, Software Engineering and Testing colleagues to shape effective solutions early.
Mentor less experienced engineers through code reviews, pair programming, knowledge sharing and design guidance.
Stay current with emerging technologies and identify practical opportunities for continuous improvement.
What You'll Bring
Significant commercial software engineering experience with deep expertise in backend development.
Expert-level experience with TypeScript and Node.js in a commercial software engineering environment.
Proven experience designing, building and maintaining production-grade backend services and APIs.
Strong hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway and CloudWatch.
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, clean architecture and scalability principles.
Experience delivering robust, cloud-native applications and complex services in production environments.
Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Experience with automated testing and quality engineering practices.
Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
A genuine commitment to mentoring, knowledge sharing and raising standards across a team.
A growth mindset and the confidence to drive continuous improvement.
The Impact You’ll Make
Set technical standards and improve quality across the engineering team.
Lead by example in the delivery of resilient, maintainable and scalable software.
Help shape an inclusive engineering culture through mentorship, innovation and practical technical leadership.
Contribute to consistent engineering patterns that support long-term platform growth.
Why Join Evri?
Work on technology that supports millions of customers and parcel journeys across the UK.
Play a leading role in a business investing in engineering, automation and platform modernisation.
Influence technical direction while remaining hands-on with complex engineering challenges.
Join a supportive, collaborative environment where senior engineers are trusted to lead and improve.
Broaden your full-stack capability while deepening your specialist expertise.
Enjoy the flexibility of remote working, with Morley as the role location.
