Metal Cutter/Production Worker
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Pay: $17/hour
Location: Downriver, MI – Flat Rock, Riverview, Gibraltar
Hours: Shift may vary based on location and production needs
Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Metal Cutter Production Worker to join a steel manufacturing warehouse. This position involves operating production equipment used to process and cut steel materials while maintaining accurate measurements and meeting quality standards.
Previous slitting experience is not required but heavily valued. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in metalworking, glass cutting, marble or stone cutting, fabrication, saw operation, or other production environments involving cutting, measuring, and operating machinery.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable working with heavy materials and machinery, able to read a tape measure, and pays close attention to detail. This is a great opportunity for someone with transferable machine-operating or cutting experience who is interested in learning the steel manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
Operate production machinery safely and efficiently to process steel materials.
Follow work orders and production instructions to ensure material, measurements, and customer specifications are met.
Accurately measure materials using tape measures and other measurement tools.
Monitor material throughout production and identify defects or quality concerns.
Make adjustments as needed to maintain product quality and accuracy.
Perform quality checks throughout the production process.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
Properly dispose of scrap, waste, and other materials.
Complete required production documentation and work instruction sign-offs.
Take and upload photographs into the company system for quality control and record-keeping.
Perform operational audits and other quality checks as assigned.
Communicate production, quality, or equipment concerns to leadership.
Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Previous experience operating machinery in a manufacturing, production, fabrication, or warehouse environment preferred.
Experience cutting glass, marble, stone, metal, or other materials is highly valued.
Experience with saws, cutting equipment, presses, fabrication equipment, or other industrial machinery is a plus.
Ability to accurately read a tape measure and understand basic measurements.
Ability to convert decimals to inches or willingness to learn.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects.
Basic computer skills for data entry and production updates.
Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and materials.
Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn the slitting and steel-processing process.
