Overview
Electric Boat Corporation is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Software Configuration Management & Test Engineer in support of Navy programs in Groton and New London, CT.
Tactical Software Engineering applies innovative submarine computer software and technologies used onboard submarines for shipboard equipment operation, control, and mission execution. Our teams design, develop, integrate, test, and manage EB‑proprietary products that support the United States Navy Nuclear Submarine Fleet.
This role supports both Software Configuration Management (SCM) and testing functions in a software-adjacent capacity. The successful candidate will ensure that developed software is properly controlled, documented, evaluated, and rigorously tested prior to release. This position provides a critical link between software development teams, systems engineering, the end‑user community, and program leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support all aspects of Configuration Management, including planning, configuration identification, configuration control, change management, status accounting/reporting, and configuration audits
- Define, establish, and maintain configuration baselines for software and technical documentation
- Develop and execute software build and release procedures
- Ensure traceability of requirements, software changes, and test activities
- Document software build results, test outcomes, and support test readiness reviews
- Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, and subject‑matter experts to evaluate changes, identify defects, and validate system functionality
- Support lab‑based integration, verification, and validation testing in Groton and New London
- Provide occasional onboard support for software installation and verification on submarines
- Maintain communication across CM teams, project stakeholders, and internal/external customers
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including Lean Six Sigma and engineering best‑practice efforts
- Ensure compliance with CM standards, including ISO 9000, AS‑9001, CMMI, and related quality programs
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while proactively identifying schedule risks, adjusting priorities, maintaining schedule discipline, and taking full ownership of meeting deadlines and project milestones
Work Environment:This position includes hands‑on work in onsite labs at our Groton or New London locations. Candidates must be comfortable following detailed procedures, working with tactical hardware, and—on rare occasions—supporting onboard verification activities. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs may be required. Occasional travel to submarine‑related sites may be necessary.
