About the role
This is what you’ll actually do!
As a Specification Technologist, you'll play a key role in bringing new and exciting products to market, ensuring every product is supported by accurate, compliant and customer-ready information throughout the development process.
From the moment a new product is approved, you'll take ownership of the specification process, ensuring all product information, ingredient declarations, nutritional data and customer documentation are accurate, compliant and delivered on time. Your work will be critical in helping products move smoothly from concept through to successful launch.
You'll create and maintain product specifications, pack copy and customer submission documentation across retailer systems and internal databases, ensuring everything reflects the latest approved recipes, ingredients and processes.
Working closely with colleagues across NPD, Technical, Quality, Commercial and Operations, you'll build strong relationships, manage priorities, resolve queries and keep projects on track by communicating progress, risks and key deadlines. With multiple projects running at once, no two days are ever quite the same.
You'll also review packaging artwork and labelling information, helping to ensure products meet legal requirements, customer expectations and company standards before launch.
Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you'll contribute to continuous improvement activities, helping to drive greater efficiency, accuracy and compliance across specification processes.
This role offers the chance to broaden your technical knowledge, work with a wide range of stakeholders and gain valuable experience across the product development process. If you're curious, motivated and eager to learn, there's plenty of opportunity to develop and make a real impact.
Ideally this is you!
• Degree-level qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience• Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG• Experience working with customers and a variety of internal stakeholders• Knowledge of specifications, food labelling and technical documentation• Understanding of HACCP principles and food safety management systems• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with excellent administrative and organisational skills• Able to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines• High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, food safety, legality and quality• Proactive, motivated and willing to get involved• Keen to learn, develop and contribute as part of a collaborative team
This role would suit someone who is eager to learn, enjoys working with people and takes pride in getting the details right. Whether you're already working in specifications or looking to build on your food manufacturing experience, we'd love to hear from you. Previous specification experience isn't essential, as you'll receive full training and support from an experienced team.
