About the role
Halinda School is located in the Western Sydney Mt Druitt area and services a diverse population within a low socio- economic context. 50% of the parent population is from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school enrols 114 students K-12 with moderate to severe intellectual disability. All students have a secondary disability that may include physical, sensory and health impairments, autism spectrum disorder, diagnosed mental health conditions and challenging behaviours. Assistance in negotiating educational planning and support services is critical for families and remains a strong focus in our strategic improvement planning. The school has undergone rapid changes in enrolment over the past three years with 57% of our school graduating into post school services and vacancies filled by early learners. This has promoted strategic planning to expand our curriculum, school resources and High Impact Professional Learning to accommodate students with complex learning needs. The school will enrol an additional class of students from Early intervention and kindergarten classes in January 2027. Forging connections with parents and allied health services will be an essential component of the school orientation and establishing of routines.
