Job Description
Category
Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Test Automation
Scope
1-2 students completing a Master or Bachelor thesis
Background
Understanding the power consumption of network devices is important for developing energy-efficient products. Making this data available during automated regression testing and product development helps engineers evaluate design choices, detect unexpected changes, and track energy efficiency over time.
Although power measurement hardware provides the measurements, collecting and using the data across development and test environments can require manual effort. A solution that is easy to connect, configure, and integrate into existing workflows would make power consumption a more accessible metric throughout product development.
Goal
Investigate, design, and implement a solution that makes power consumption data easily accessible during automated regression tests and product development.
The solution should address the following areas:
- Data collection: Read PoE measurement data from the power measurement board through a serial interface.
- Data access: Provide a simple, well-defined interface for automated tests and development tools.
- Easy setup: Minimize physical connections and configuration steps, in the test environment.
- Storage and visualization: Make the data easy to integrate with existing data collection systems, enabling visualization and analysis in tools such as Apache Superset.
Who are you?
Master or Bachelor student in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, System Development, or a related field. Knowledge in embedded Linux, serial communication, data engineering, or visualization is beneficial.
