About the role
Connect Students to Real-World Work.
The best learning often happens on the job and you'll make it happen. As a Work-Based Learning (WBL) Specialist, you'll provide employability training that leads students to full-time jobs, higher education, or advanced training, and manage the on- and off-Center work assignments that turn classroom skills into real workplace experience.
This is a role for a connector and coach: someone who builds strong employer relationships, mentors students through their first work experiences, and takes pride in watching them grow into confident, employable professionals.
Why Join Us? Make a Real Impact!
Job Corps is a transformative program that provides education, vocational training, and career readiness to young adults. In this role, you bridge the gap between training and employment placing students in meaningful work-based learning, building the employer partnerships that make it possible, and helping students build the skills and confidence that launch careers.
What You'll Do
Lead the Work-Based Learning Program
Oversee the WBL program, ensuring all eligible students actively participate in on- and off-Center on-the-job training assignments that build their employability skills. Market the WBL program to staff and students so its importance is understood, and help the Center meet or exceed DOL/Company performance goals.
Build & Monitor Employer Sites
Identify viable WBL employer sites, establish MOUs, and conduct periodic OSHA and site supervision inspections. Provide transportation services to meet Center requirements, and conduct community outreach to established WBL sites and related agreements.
Support Students & Track Progress
Establish supportive, mentoring relationships with students throughout their enrollment, providing employability and career counseling. Routinely evaluate student performance and competencies, update the ePCDP and related student plans, identify and remediate barriers to achievement, and ensure student accountability procedures are compliant for all WBL students all while ensuring the integrity of student WBL documentation.
Model Standards & Collaborate
Follow all integrity guidelines and ensure no manipulation of student data. Mentor, monitor, and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH, and provide high-quality supervision that positively influences student behavior. Communicate clearly, resolve problems with sound judgment, partner with staff across all departments, and accept direction from the Center Director, Program Director, Duty Officer, or Shift Manager including other duties as assigned.
