About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director, Insurance & Risk Financing based in the United States.
The Senior Director, Insurance & Risk Financing will lead regional insurance operations and risk-financing activities across the Americas, with a particular focus on the US commercial insurance portfolio. Reporting to the Global Head of Corporate Insurance, you will translate global insurance strategy into effective regional programs while ensuring strong governance and operational performance. You will oversee key insurance lines, including workers’ compensation, automobile, casualty, and property coverage, while managing broker relationships, claims, renewals, and financial administration. The role also provides strategic risk-management advice to business leaders on contracts, acquisitions, and complex operational exposures. You will lead a small regional team and collaborate with senior stakeholders, insurers, actuaries, and external partners across a multinational environment. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity combining technical insurance expertise, financial oversight, people management, and strategic decision-making.
Accountabilities:
-
Lead insurance and risk-management operations across the Americas, ensuring alignment with global corporate insurance strategy, policies, and governance requirements.
-
Manage regional insurance programs, including annual renewals, exposure-data collection, coverage administration, and transitions to independently administered insurance arrangements.
-
Own the US insurance portfolio, including workers’ compensation, automobile, and other locally required commercial insurance coverage.
-
Serve as the primary US contact for brokers and insurers, managing relationships, renewal processes, negotiations, and regional placement strategy.
-
Oversee significant claims, settlement strategies, loss developments, and litigation reviews in collaboration with business teams, insurers, brokers, and claims administrators.
-
Direct claims, actuarial, and reserve-management activities, including claims-data validation, actuarial reviews, reserve calculations, loss forecasting, and external audit support.
-
Manage regional insurance collateral and financial administration, including deductible and self-insured collateral requirements, premium allocations, billing, and certificates of insurance.
-
Advise business leaders on insurance coverage, risk-specific matters, contractual insurance requirements, customer and project agreements, and mergers and acquisitions.
-
Monitor the performance of insurers, brokers, third-party administrators, and other service providers, ensuring service quality and timely delivery.
-
Coordinate regional insurance projects, claims dashboards, and risk-reduction initiatives to improve transparency and operational effectiveness.
-
Support property risk management and loss prevention across production sites by coordinating risk assessments, prioritizing remediation actions, and strengthening fire and asset-protection standards.
-
Lead, develop, and motivate the regional insurance team, setting priorities and fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
-
Represent the US within the global corporate insurance organization and contribute to cross-functional initiatives and strategic decisions.
-
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Law, Engineering, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field; equivalent professional experience and recognized insurance or risk-management qualifications may also be considered.
-
10+ years of relevant experience in corporate insurance, insurance brokerage, an insurance company, claims management, or operational risk management.
-
Strong knowledge of the US commercial insurance market, with practical experience designing, placing, and renewing workers’ compensation and automobile insurance programs.
-
Proven experience managing claims, analyzing claims data, reviewing reserves, coordinating actuarial processes, and managing collateral for deductible or self-insured arrangements.
-
Broad understanding of casualty, property, workers’ compensation, automobile, and other corporate insurance programs.
-
Experience coordinating insurance renewals, collecting and validating exposure information, allocating premiums, and managing insurance-related billing and documentation.
-
Practical experience reviewing contractual insurance requirements and advising business stakeholders on insurance and risk-management matters.
-
Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, insurance due diligence, or insurance-program separation and transition activities.
-
Previous experience managing employees or small professional teams, with a demonstrated ability to develop and motivate others.
-
Proven ability to coordinate complex projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders under demanding timelines.
-
Strong operational judgment and understanding of how regional insurance activities align with global governance structures and decision-making processes.
-
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex claims and exposure information into practical recommendations.
